Nah, Cotto quitting in the Margarito fight saved him. If he got up to try and withstand even more punishment like Vargas did, he probably would have had that layer of toughness just beat off him. But he quit at the moment he was officially done and probably saved his career.

More like Mayorga is the Vargas. Vargas beat Quartey/Winky than shot up to the top only to get dropped by the other guys. Mayorga beat Forrest then lost to all the other guys

Im from Juana Diaz Puerto Rico,and yes to alot of us Cotto is the new Vargas.
Well maybe alittle less than Vargas cus when Vargas fights,he fights like a warrior and you have to kill him in the ring like Trinidad almost did.We know
that when Cotto gets in trouble hes gonna take a knee cus his life to him is
more important than the boxing.You have to go out in the boxing game if not
go be a teacher or something else...

I agree....you gotta be a warrior out there....you can't be a fighter and bow out like that (aka de la hoya shoudda known better too)....lots of people who don't get the pride and honor in boxing say.....well they are just being "smart" fighters...they are looking out for their health....dude that's what the **** you have a corner for......they are the ones who are supposed to get you out of there "for your health" they are the ones who should quit...they are the ones who need to do all that ****....a fighter should never quit in the ring.....never.....

Yes Vargas FOUGHT HOFers in Trinidad, Mosley and DLH...but lost to all of them and Mayorga...

Cotto has already beaten a series of better fighters than Vargas has beaten...Winky is Vargas' biggest win and that was debatable

My answer is simply, no, Cotto is much better than Vargas ever was. And i was a big time Vargas fan when he was popular and on his way up. These 2 shouldn't even be compared.

imo vargas lost more than cotto has. u notice vargas' fight after tito he was dropped and hurt pretty bad by a single shot. cotto took big shots from clottey and didnt see them coming ( from cut) and stayed on his feet. i do admit cottos confidence is still missing. courage carried him through the clottey fight, 1 thing 4 sure if pac beats him decision or ko he needs to retire.
