smh, is he trying to take Mayweather’s playbook to the next level?

No maybe's about it.
I always find it fascinating how some fighters are embraced, without having to PROVE themselves.
''He KO'd a bunch of guys, doe!''
Benny got no grief fighting Plant, LeMeh or DooDoo
I'd place Berlanga at least in that group.
Nelo has done more than enough
It's time to put other fighters under that microscope.
Of course Canelo has the best active resume, he has been fighting for a long time now and clearly done a good amount. But the fact is, as the cash cow he has a history for marinating opponents until they grew old, or with Benavidez, so far, not fighting them at all. Benavidez is chasing the best opponent in his weight class, Canelo is not.Comment

Funny enough, there is a thread on the history page about this exact thing. Like most Mayweather threads, it devolved into arguing about May v Pac contract negotiations. My thought was:
Mayweather built his early career (PBF) taking a more difficult road, before cautiously managing his '0' and taking on older opponents later in his career. Whereas Canelo built up his name by taking out big names past their prime early in his career, and then used that to become the cash cow later on.Comment

I don't know if you are being intentionally disingenuous, but you recognize that the issue is that Canelo chooses at all times who & when he fights. He is the cash cow & has control (and yes I know to some that is the mark of greatness). Point being, Benavidez has clearly been the best opponent available to Canelo (both based on in the ring eye test & resume), in the class that Canelo is the unified champ, for years now... and it is not happening. And since Canelo control who & when, its not happening due to Canelo's choice.

No problem with it.
But not for a single belt.
Should have been stripped of all belts years ago now - even the IBF who infamously strip unified champs in days *Usy, crawford* - jst carry on regardless. The sooner Turki buys up the belt orgs and merges them into one belt the better. Although that would be giving them something the corrupt scammers don't deserve.Comment
