So Roy is fighting a CW and Hopkins is fighting a MW? Well at least they're both safe bets and won't derrail the Roy/BHop matchup.

There are tune-ups. And there are pointless fights. This is a pointless fight. I've been a Hopkins fan for a long time and I'm tired of defending him. I don't care if Dawson loses to Johnson. Hopkins still should fight Tavoris Cloud if that happens to have at least one prime Lightheavyweight on his resume.Comment

basically it boils down to hopkins hasnt fought since last october and when Roy fights Green that will be his 4th fight within 12 months. hopkins doesnt want to be rusty while roy is still activeThere are tune-ups. Not really pointless when the entire point is to shake the ring rust. He's not in it for a tough challenge or a tough fight, it's simply intended to "stay busy." Call this a Andy Kolle or Alfonzo Gomez fight for Hopkins (who lets face it hasn't had a tune up fight in how many years??). Plus, there are no illusions about this fight and it's for charity AND on free TV.
lol. Why do you care what hopkins resume looks like at LHW? His run at 175 is all over the age of 40 years old, he doesn't need to fight a tough guy like Cloud at 45 years of age. Let the man have his tune up, fight jones and either retire or fight Dawson/Johnson winner and/or Adamek. His legacy is sealed, it doesn't matter what he does from here on out.Hopkins still should fight Tavoris Cloud if that happens to have at least one prime Lightheavyweight on his resume.Comment

His legacy is sealed where some people are concerned. But he is missing a convincing victory over a prime 175 lber outside of a weight drained Tarver. I'm even disappointed in the Jones-Hopkins fight if you want my opinion. People get ****** into these brand name fights that have no meaning thanks to guys like Dan Rafael. Roy Jones is done, and it showed when he fought Calzaghe. I also won't give Hopkins any credit for beating Roy Jones. Just getting this out there. Not really pointless when the entire point is to shake the ring rust. He's not in it for a tough challenge or a tough fight, it's simply intended to "stay busy." You just lost your credibility with this statement. He whooped tarvers ass for the same reason he whooped pavlik's and Tito's asses, he took away their main weapon by using lateral movement, great defense and counter punching abilities. Weight had nothing to do with it.
No one will give hopkins much credit for beating Jones at this point, probably not even he himself would. But like it or not this fight is only happening because the fans asked for it and there is a demand for it. There were even a lot of people saying hopkins was ducking Jones for not wanting it at first.I'm even disappointed in the Jones-Hopkins fight if you want my opinion. The fact is, Hopkins is 45 years old and in all honesty should have retired long ago. You're demanding a lot for a fighter 45 years old who is way past his prime.Comment

I agree that the situation with Tarver is overblown where the weight is concerned. But that victory has lost it's shine due to Tarver getting his ass whipped twice in a row by Dawson even though Dawson beat him less convincingly. A win over Dawson is very attainable for Bernard even at his age and it would do so much more for Bernard's legacy than a win over Roy Jones would. But that is not the main point that I brought up in the thread. You just lost your credibility with this statement. You don't see something wrong with Hopkins fighting four guys in a row coming up in weight? I don't make that much of a big deal about it, because I realize it can be overblown in a lot of cases. But this is something that Hopkins haters (And trust me, he's got plenty of them) point out. I don't know if a win over Dawson would shut the critics up. But it would make me think that he is going for the glory and not just the money. And you know I am a Hopkins fan by the way.Comment
