Good point. I would say her impact on the sport and society is greater than Novak’s, which is why she is that high and above him.

Tiger and Serena literally and figuratively changed the complexion of golf and tennis in America. Which is no small thing.

IMO I think Messi and Tiger should’ve been 1 and 2, however you decide to cut it.

That's basically what they did considering only three boxers made the list. But we all watched Pacquiao and Mayweather. They're cultural impact and dominance exceeds that of someone like Serena's. And like I said, Serena is one of the few tennis players I respect, but she's ranked way too high.

It's ESPN. They have to push the sports and athletes that can make them the most money and have the correct/DEI optics.

Why would they include Canelo? He failed a drug test.

Jon Jones is on the list. And he failed more tests than Canelo.

He shouldn’t be on there either. Another quota being met.

List isn't really relevant to world sport, just America really.

Worldwide, you would have more boxers and wouldn't get any/many basketball players in there and no American Football or baseball players. Nobody cares about US sports worldwide.

Definitely take the list with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, and both of them are on the list so what is the problem? I personally like Bud but in reality, Canelo nor Crawford are no where near the tier remotely close to those two in terms of cultural impact and that is a fact. My sister who watches zero boxing knows the names of Mayweather and Pacquiao. She probably doesn't know what they exactly accomplised to become famous but vaguely know them as "famous boxers" similar to the likes of Ali and Mike Tyson, where she probably will think Terrence Crawford is a name of a football player or something if asked to take a guess.

Serena (and Venus) basically created the modern day style of 21st century women's tennis, and Serena is one of the three candidates for the never ending arguement for the GOAT female players ever in the history of the sport along with Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova. The trio of Djokovic/Nadal/Federer are the equivalent of Michael Jordan and Lebron James and someone else I can't think of a good example all playing in the same era locking out the MVP award winner for 15 straight years among them in that they are the three of the most famous and best players in the history of the sport.

Canelo and Crawford didn't effect or change the modern day sport of boxing, nor are they iconic or as famous as Pac or Floyd, and they aren't also the no doubt top three boxers in the history of the sport.

The fact that there are way too many non-historical ATG football/basketball/baseball players on the list is a different story, but compared to them the aforementioned tennis players are atleast historical ATGs of the sport.

If you locked Serena Williams in a room with Joe Joyce to settle the question of "Who is the better athlete", Serena would come out Pregnant.
