You know the reason that the US, UK, Mexico, and Japan are both presently and historically the four most successful boxing nations?

Because boxing is very popular, there is a high population, and there are a large number of high quality gyms. It's really not that complicated.

For historical major world titles, these were the numbers as of earlier this year:
          USA - 455
          Mexico- 153
          UK - 101
          Japan - 82
          Puerto Rico - 48
          Thailand - 46
          South Korea - 46
          Argentina - 43
          Philippines - 40
          Colombia - 36

Puerto Rico isn't technically a country, but for international sports they compete as one. But for an island with a population of only 3.2 million, they're easily the most impressive on the list.

Not that many other big boxing nations. I would guess the next group would include Russia, Australia, Canada, Panama, Nicaragua, Ireland?

In 20 years I think we'll see Brazil and China rising up the list.

I could see Cuba too, once they get over their anti pro boxing stuff fully. I think the UK has only two champs right now though.

Its one of the biggest Euro nations and boxing is relatively very popular there. Also large working/underclass and Irish diaspora who are attracted to it.

They're the best Euros at MMA too. Two UFC champs currently.
