Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez not scared, not ducking David Benavidez, says Trevor McCumby

Arizona's McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs), a rising undefeated super middleweight, says Alvarez isn't ducking any 168-pounder. The viewpoint contrasts what many fight fans and fighters, including Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward, Daniel Jacobs and Paulie Malignaggi have said about a potential Canelo-Benavidez fight--all of whom have declared Canelo is avoiding the unbeaten two-time super middleweight champion who has been calling out the Mexican great for years.

De La Hoya has blatantly been more disrespect than The Benavidez and he still fought Mungia.

Now this clown mf Bernard Neequaye needs to name the other set of fighters who disagree with malignaggi and Ward etc fighters like Marco Antonio Barrera and Mike Garcia and Caleb Plant and Robert Garcia and Joel Diaz and Leonard Ellerbe who have been on record saying they know canelo not afraid of Benavidez . Don’t leave out facts to fit your narrative clown

All I need to do is keep repeating Canelo isn't afraid.... then stick my fingers in my ears and hummmm so I can't hear you and that magically makes it true.

If that doesn't work I'm going back to Canelo doesn't fight Mexicans.

if you think fighters are super heroes without emotions thats pretty silly. you can be a great fighter but also protect yourself by not fighting guys who could possibly beat you. those things arent mutually exclusive. also you cant just ignore all the evidence of canelo ducking people throughout his career. he did that for a reason. he knows there is a good chance he loses to benavidez and that would affect how people see him, now theres a good chance he would win too but it wouldnt up his current "greatness" status by all that much so hes playing it safe and hoping wins over fringe guys will add to his greatness because in boxing if you continue winning people hop aboard the train, and often it doesnt even matter who you beat, just look at wilder. canelo has some really good wins in the bag already and is hoping to coast off of those wins. a guy like oscar is the exact opposite of canelo. he fought everyone when they were the most dangerous and he took more losses in the process(although some were dubious) but oscar never looked like a dominant fighter above 140 because the competition was so hot, looking dominant and great is more important than being great for most. if you can fool people into thinking you are great then mission accomplished, no need to risk it in the ring.
