Boots' defense stinks

Hagler looked vulnerable against Mugabi and it lured Sugar Ray in by his own admission.Comment

I do like to watch him fight but still want to see him tested with a few top fighters, WW now don't have the depth anymore. Too bad because it can be a waste of prime years or really not what he looks to be. This is wait and see, he can always wait for all those JrWW make it to him especially if he can hold all the titles.Comment

I really don't think it is match making. He was poorly promoted and really only had Showtime airing his fights. The way that he looks in the ring is high risk and low reward, not having any pull didn't bring any big or experienced names. Fighters can go so long without facing legit opponents and falsely think that they can run over everyone. He has over 30 fights and all those KOes and he mentally can come in a fight with the wrong attitude.

The choice comes down to the fighter to decide whether facing someone or not
The same goes for his inactivity , it’s on him
Instead of staying busy like he said he wanted to , he’s still on course for one fight a year maybe he can squeeze one in before the end of the year
A D he needs to stop refusing fights with his comment that these guys are not on his level , just stay busyComment

Facts. His defensive isn't technically great, it's mainly just reflexive backed by his athleticism. Much like Roy Jones or Zab Judah etc.
His mainstay is his offense. Fast, powerful, brutal punches. So, that's what he is mainly known for. Nobody really talks about his defense, to be fair.
Not a whole lot to show either when facing B and lower level fighters with tailor made styles for him to pick apart.Comment

It is this second point where we might look at Ennis. He is obviously offensive minded, can he follow directions to make adjustments? Not to change any fundamentals regarding style, but rather, little things that might make him effective.
BTW I did watch the fight and yeah, he was catching a lot of shots lol. Unfortunately despite age, these guys are not fighting enough, so, they are arrested in their development to a degree, vis a vis Boots still making mistakes by taking shots he should not be, etc.

Its not about changing style, it is about making adjustments and following a game plan... Lets use Holly as an example. Holly always could box, he just did not like to box, preferring to slug it out. He had the skills already. That would apply to the Bowe fight where, the time he beat Bowe he boxed. With Tyson it was learning to do a particular manuveur that required a lot of trust. Turner had him pushing on Mike's center point of balance, where we do not have a leg... To do this Holly had to buck intuition and come into Mike, not go backwards...

I thought you were talking about his defence meaning he’d have to change quite a bit to up his defence and imo , at this stage of his career it’s just not going to happen
Unless he decides to cut down on his offend ewhich in reality is his defence lolComment
