In reality, you become a star in boxing when you're in some back and forth exchanges with some of your opponents. Many celebrated fighters were in those fights. Wilder became an instant star right after his first fight with Ortiz, as an example. Being too defensive-minded will not turn you into a star.

Boots defense is leaky at times because he is very offensive minded. When he boxes he actually does very well and counters very well. But will he have the discipline to fight defense if his offense starts going?LA_2_Vegas

His defence is fine, he could easily stink up the joint and box more like a Devin Haney.
I'm not saying he purposely let Avenesyan hit him but the plan was to dogwalk him. Once Avenesyan finds some success he tends to get a bit too confident. I think that is what Boots wanted to get him too open up and punch in between shots.

It makes a big difference for sure.
Bowe listened to his corner and followed a game plan but didn’t change his style
