I think Martin had a plan to fight Davis until he got hit and hit hard. Davis’s punches to the body had Martin running to the ropes after a while. Davis has a very high ring IQ from all of his amateur fights. Martin had a good game plan but didn’t have the stamina to execute it. Everybody has a plan until they get hit. Had Martin stayed off of the ropes, moved and boxed Davis more then he possibly could have won the fight. Martin was ready for Davis’s headhunting but he wasn’t ready for his body attack. After the thudding shots from Davis to his body, Martin went to the ropes for safety and that’s how he lost the fight.

For someone to beat Davis they have to be a good boxer, stay on their toes, jab well and land solid punches on him to get his respect.

Martin earns my respect for admitting his loss and promising to come back better. He can do that by getting another trainer.

I agree with that. Over time Davis showed very little respect for Martins punching power.

Impressive stoppage by Davis Saturday but lets be real. Martin was basically cannon fodder. Game plan was good but basically was too weak soon as he started getting hit fight was over. You heard what Davis said postfight the game plan was only to wait until this guy got tired, which didn't take long.

Martin doesn’t have any reason to hang his head about. He fought well.

However, he was just overmatched by a much better fighter that’s all.

His lack of firepower and inability to stay off the ropes really hurt him in there against Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Had Frank Martin learn the art of the clinch. He could have easily won that fight. Each time Davis got in too close. He should have tied him up but didn’t.

There was openings when he fell back to the ropes but he imo too was tired to throw back.

He needed a defense to beat Tank in there but didn’t have one. He needed to keep the action in the center of the ring and tie Davis up every time he got in close but failed to do so.

So mental preparedness is key. You don't worry about getting hit, but focused on hurting the opponent instead. You won't get affected with getting hit much as when you're afraid of it because your focus is on inflicting damage to the guy in front of you. You see it in Alvarez, Beterbiev, Dubois lately, etc.
It's not easy as you think. With Tank's power, if he just grazed you once, you'd start crying and sucking your thumb

I agree a few Hopkinsish veteran tactics would have helped his cause
