Comments Thread For: Naoya Inoue Declines Mandatory, Plans for September Fight in Japan

Here's the part where people starting looking at photos and video of Akhmadaliev and saying Inoue is ducking the guy. When in reality, Inoue fought the man, Tapales, who beat Akhmadaliev in December. At the same month that Akhmadaliev had an impressive rebound win. I think fighting Akhmadaliev is a great fight, but he has just now earned a shot with his rebound win. Give it some time to see if it's the fight to make.

Akhmadaliev is an anonymous fighter according to Bob Arum? Give me a break.
It’s always something with Top Rank whenever the opponent is higher risk.Last edited by ShoulderRoll; 06-14-2024, 10:51 PM.

Since his 6th fight dude's had nothing but word title, unification & undisputed fights.
Anyone who read the recent Doheny interview can understand the marketing arc in Japan for giving the Aussie "villain" a shot at the champ.
Seems as if right now the Japanese want a particular brand of entertainment & Inoue is perfectly satisfied to be paid for providing it.
He'll get back to handling serious business next year, it's all he's ever done.

I like the Doheny fight because the man can punch.
If he catches Inoue like Nery did, who knows...

Doheny is a villain in Japan, much like Nery. He won his world title in Japan against a Japanese fighter, then he defended it in the US against a Japanese fighter, and more recently he has fought his last 3 fights in Japan winning them all.
Doheny is easily the worst option among himself, Akhmadaliev, Casimero, and Goodman as far as competition but as far as selling the fight in Japan it's no contest.
