I do know in the St Louis versus Kansas City world series Steve balboni who hit less than 200 on average on the series for Kansas City do we need to qualify that world series victory? Grow up...
.
You do indeed need to qualify it. But only because Don Denkenger cost the Redbirds the victory.
Oh and prime Roy was the best boxer ever. By a lot.

There you go! And in other world series these types of things do not happen? I used to love baseball and to my mind the only world series I ever saw that was out and out, fought on equal ground, by two teams that were almost identical in ability (the Reds who won were a little better), with few quirks of circumstance was the Red Sox versus the Big Red Machine 73, 74? the year escapes me... two of the best teams I ever saw, and even though the series last game was close, it was obvious the Reds were just a little better... But your comment reinforces the point I am making here... There is always "some reason" some twist of fate, and it is seldom a situation... like the one I mentioned above and I am sure there were things in that series as well, it just seemed to be about skill and the better team won...
Ahh the cult of Roy... I remember it well. Jones could do no wrong was unbeatable! But alas!! He slipped a bit on a banana peel thrown in the ring and Tarver caught him. I think Jones as a central boxing ATG in his generation was better than Mayweather, but there were plenty of guys, even at 160, who would have been a good fight and even beat Jones IMO.
Ridiculous to say the best ever... Roy never fought a real pressure guy. Even Armstrong at a catchweight would have been a tremendous challenge, much less the likes of some great middle weights who knew how to keep coming forward. A lot of Jones game, and admittingly it was a superb game, was using feints because people did not want to get hit with that hook of his... Charles as a light heavy? would not worry about it... just as an example, and the Old Mongoose? watch Moore at Middle weight some time on Youtube and tell me Jones would beat him easy, if at all... i am talking at 160 here.
Go to Youtube and do a search. you can see and make your own judgements. How great was Jones? Well lets compare arguably the two most heralded fighters from his generation Floyd and Jones. Jones not only fought ATG level guys, some in prime, but he dominated his fights. Mayweather did do so with Canelo, Not really with Pac. That is one measure.
Jones had incredible athletic abilities. His hook was so fast that he could throw it from almost anywhere in the ring. Jones was also very smart and knew how to use his gifts. Some people think at 160 he was unbeatable, I do not know about that...
If Mayweather was the Apollonian aspect of greatness... Well ordered, setting things up, using elaborate traps and counters... Jones was Dionasian chaos... Yes he was Floyd's equal as a fighter able to use strategy but he preferred simplicity, quick feints, explosive punching... For example: Floyd's Check Hook... A punch that depended upon getting an opponent to commit, coming forward. Often employed after said opponent was trying to chase Floyd down... as compared to Jones left hook... A quick feint, opponent drops hands and Bam!!! Real simple.
Mayweather toyed with pacman and mayweather was way more complete than Roy who was a party trickster who got exposed by tarver
I know a lot of fans weren't born yet or too young to remember him in his prime, but how good was he exactly?
Roy was truly special
Īm going to leave it at that
Disappointing that he’s actually remembered for staying in the game to long and tarnishing his own legacy
It's a great match-up. Hearns jab and 78" reach would have given Roy some problems.
I know the quality that the boxer I'm going to mention is not comparable to Hearns, but he fought a bigger guy and a difficult one in Ruiz for the HW belt, and he didn't have any problems.
