No. It's purely to do with national standard of living, period.
In most of Western Europe and certainly the United States and Canada, the poor are often sick, lazy or ******. All no-gos for success in this sport.
That sounds harsh and too general, but it's largely true.
You see, having little to lose is useful in producing the mindset for the high risk proposition of being a never back down fighting machine.
