A couple of things, why give up the belt? Isn't this the type of soft touches Canelo was looking for? Lol. IBF should be ashamed of themselves with these types of mandatories, I've seen this dude and he's nowhere near ready for Canelo or really any top SMW. And he's really boring.

This is good news but unfortunately the scenario won’t likely result in a fight with benavidez. It’ll most likely be berlanga instead. Which sucks balls.

This can't be stressed enough. The reason why IBF has terrible rankings is a result of them being very strict about enforcing their rules. Promoters have less interest in the IBF because it's harder for them to sway the sanctioning body and have a fighter magically pop up ranked. Fighters may not want to go the IBF route because their mandatory will be forced on them and it likely won't be a lucrative fight.

Fighters and promoters more likely to stick with something like the WBC where rules are written as they go and they might even present you with a customized belt (Creole, Juneteenth, etc). That's why you end up with a lot of unknowns ranked in the IBF....

Their rankings are trash man. Out of those 3 IBF top rated guys I mentioned how many fights of theirs have you watched? I’ve watched one and that was Eifert vs Pascal.
they can't because people refuse their eliminators. the ideal scenario would be one belt, ibf's rules. then everybody would have to obey them. now they can just go another route. i don't understand how all of you can bash ibf.
when someone refuses to fight, ibf kick them out of their top10 for 6 months. when ~10 boxers refuse, some of them are out of the rankings completely. they are replaced with lower quality boxers and they get a chance to fight eliminators. guys who ACCEPT and pay the sanctioning fees DESERVE to be #1 and #2. guys who refuse to fight DON'T DESERVE title shots regardless of their quality, name, fanbase...

william scull and ibf ARE NOT standing in the way of canelo - benavidez. canelo didn't want to fight benavidez regardless of everything. if you people are mad at ibf because they prevent the best fight in this division, YOU ARE WRONG! what do you want sanctioning bodies to do? do nothing for x amount of years until a champion moves up or retires? they should be even more strict. canelo should have been stripped 2 years ago. and not just canelo but this topic is about him.

enforced mandatory rule was invented because champions refused to fight their #1 challenger for way too much time. jose napoles had to wait for ~5 years to get his shot. harry wills had to wait for ~5 years and never got his shot. nino valdes never got his shot. and so on. ibf's rules are better than what we had in the "one belt per division" era. and i am not even kidding. without rankings and enforced mandatories, a champion could fight plumbers until he retire (literally #536, #748 guys) and put the division on hold. i hope nobody in the world wants that.

Even shishkin thinks scull is nothing special dont know who he beat to become mando ,could even ask the same specifically in morrells case but at least David seems to have passed the 'eye test' for most here lol unlike Berlanga.

Benavidez or Crawford should be in the play for September.

Crawford is fighting Madrimov in August for the WBA/WBO 154 titles. There is absolutely zero chance he fights Canelo at 168 in September.

Benavidez is fighting Gvozdyk at 175 on June 15. Who knows what he does after that. If he wins he'll be able to challenge the Beterbiev v Bivol winner, or move down and try to fight Canelo. Or he could lose or get cut or take some other injury that takes him out of a potential Canelo fight in September.
