Let's Settle This Once And For All, Why Does Mayweather Have So Many Haters?

We already know Mayweather is the most skilled fighter and biggest cash cow in boxing right now and anytime a person has that kind of influence there's obviously gonna be haters trying to drag him down. We saw it with Muhammad Ali in the 60's and 70's and we're seeing the same thing happen today with Mayweather.

For the most part, it obviously comes from jealousy and envy but i'm trying to find a specific reason why they exert so much energy hating on him because it's still a mystery to me.

I narrowed it down to the 4 most likely choices but if i forgot one then state what it is in this thread.

    Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather = Former & Last Lineal Welterweight Champion.

First 1.5 yrs as a pro, won a world title - without a title eliminator or interim title ... and in his first 17 or 18 fights

+ 10 consecutive years as a world champion

+ 5-WBC titles in as many weight classes

+ 6-time world champion, in his first 10 yrs as pro

+ All championships he won were off of reigning champions - no vacant titles -

    + He was a challenger in a fight 6 times and has a 6-0 2KO

    + 15 current/former world champions faced

    23-title fights (23-0 record)

    3 linear titles

all this happened during a streak of 39 straight victories and within the first 10 yrs of his professional career.

No one in the history of boxing has accomplished that without havinng taken a loss or more

He's only 1 championship away from tying the record held by Sugar Ray Robinson and thats winning 7 world champions ...

He's currently tied with Sugar Ray Leonard with legitimized championship in 5 different weight classes.

I'm not saying you have to like the man but he's one of the best of all-time ...

It also has been confirmed that (not including linear titles) Pacquiao has won titles in only 4 weight classes (with as many alphabet titles) and Oscar didn't have many legitimized titles ...

Jesus Christ, we need a new "section for kindergartens" with mother****ers like you, don't we? Nice to see such an unbiased poll.

Mayweather's entire sales pitch relies on him being "the man you want to see get beat." When he fought Gatti he made himself "the enemy" in order to attract publicity. It's his entire PR strategy... he acts like a douche so people will want to see him lose. Then they buy tickets and PPV to see this happen.

He has "haters" (a word that only two-year-olds say) because he WANTS "haters". It's good for business.

People deep down KNOW that Floyd is the best. We've all known that for some time now. Sure Pac is a great fighter and Cotto is a great fighter and Mosley yadda yadda yadda.

Everyone has a favorite WW, and everyone likes to "pretend" that their fighter has just what it takes to beat Mayweather, even though none of us really know what it takes to beat him.

He don't knock folks out with one punch, and he is an arrogant ass sometimes and for some reason many people refuse to accept greatness. He will continue to beat everyone he faces, thus that many more people will lose their favorite WW. That same amount of people will then get on here and discuss what Mayweather did wrong, and find some excuse why somebody else will beat him.

In the end, if Floyd doesn't choose to retire by then, people will realize that undefeated, or not, they were wrong about him all along. Most of Ali's critics eventually admitted they had been wrong. Same will be true with Mayweather.

He is great at generating ill will, I really do not entirely understand it because he is not a great talker. It has been building for a long time and it only gets bigger with more time.

It is what it is, if that is the best way he can generate interest in his fights, that is the route to take. It is on him though, everyone gets hated on sooner or later in this sport no matter what they have done, because normally athletes want to be loved and adored but at some point that backfires but with Floyd he started out being unknown then went to being hated then instigated more hate from that point onward.

It always makes me laugh to think about when Floyd was an unknown great boxer who was considered under rated, if anyone told me back then that he could generate such feelings in the boxing public I whould have thought they were ****ting me and I would have bet them on it.

It's clear that Mayweather's confident attitude and ability to back it up makes Anorak who is insecure feel threatened. H8rz = expozed.

Judging by this post, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say you probably fall under the 2nd category.

And at the irony of you of all posters saying we should create a new section for kindergarteners. You and your threads like ""Which member of the HBO Team do you think is most likely to kill a **********?" " would be a big hit if they ever did make a section like that.

Overrated boxer with no heart, dirty fight style, cherry picker, good challenge ducker and just look at my signature videos that tells it all.

But then keep dreaming about Mayweather just like people used to dream about Roy Jones.. you are in for a wake up call next year..

                    1) Because of his bad attitude, which seems to have gotten a little better lately.

                    2) Because of his unwillingness to fight a top WW while still maintaining he is the greatest.

Those are the reasons why i have a slight dislike for him.
