How many fights at pro level are fixed in advance?

Not talking about judges but between fighters.

Are some nations more prone to it than others? We just had a fight discussed where a former WC lost to someone with 4 fights, and made no real effort to hurt him.

So that sparked my interest in the question.

I think it's very rare.

More common is things such as wining and dining referees and judges and maintaining good relationships with them. Promoters will take referees out for fancy meals, put them up in luxury hotels etc so you know they are gonna favour a certain fighter because they want to be staying in the Hilton luxury suite again next time and flying Emirates first class!

A lot of times if the away fighter isn't wealthy, their travel arrangements are taken care of by the main fight promoter, the klitschkos were known for booking opponents into hotel rooms opposite a noisy construction site and things like this, anything to get an edge.

Additionally you get fighters who are just turning up for a paycheck, don't belive they can win and don't try to win, that happens all the time.

But as far as getting money to lay down, I don't think it's super common because usually, if fighting someone who has the financial clout to do that, the guy being offered it can make more money by winning.

That's a naive perspective. Sonny liston got entangled with the maffia and had no choice, supposedly.

Even in high level fights refs are clearly bought/corrupted somehow to favour a certain fighter. Floyd/HFloon and Haney/Garcia good examples of this.

Watch Tyson-Ruddock 1. Tyson just lands a few big shots and the ref stops the fight. Tyson had a lot of those... Ribalta fight the same.

Sports ******** among pro athletes are on the rise due to easy access to online betting sites. Have your trusted mama or sibling place the bet for you like who the *** is going to find out. Good thing about Boxing is that fighters can bet on themselves legally in Vegas lol.

I would say that big time athletes aren’t going to risk it, they dont need to, but the low to mid level guys can surely use some easy, extra cash. I mean why the *** not.
