I don't think Haney is a natural, 'born-to-be" fighter. You either have that mindset, or you dont. His body and muscles aren't even optimized for the sport if you think about it. He's fast, but not too fast. His defense is good, but not great. He can't generate respectable power, no matter how hard he throws. And his recovery ability is pretty bad. And it looks like every time he fights a fighter with fast hands and feet, he seems to get in some sort of trouble

He's a good fighter overall, but seems to be a "made-fighter" and not a "born-fighter". Which is why he doesn't clap back when he gets clipped. He'd rather hold

Agree, won the fight on points based on a left hook which is a good punch for him against a chinny fighter who couldn't make any adjustments.

People wanted Devin to be the new Floyd so badly, whenever Floyd got clipped with something solid he'd make a total adjustment and rarely ever got hit with the same shot for the remainder of the fight.

Well you might as well get used to it because it is the way the world. When a fighter is hurt; It’s natural for them to hold on for dear life.

C’mon man! Fighters have been doing that from the beginning of the sport. All fighters hold when they are hurt. It’s a natural instinct.

I was more disappointed in Ryan Garcia’s back turning defense. Now that is actually a foul and against the rules of the sport because it was an act of disengagement.

So when he began to persistently do it. Bill Haney instructed his son Devin to start punching him in the kidneys until he got the referee’s attention.

Once the referee got wind of it he started to warn Garcia about it and then allowed Devin to punch him there.

Had Devin did a Wladimir Klitschko; Like grabbing and clinching to avoid engaging, trading and exchanging punches.

Then you and other boxing fans alike would have a legitimate gripe about Haney’s holding.

I mean are you saying Ryan should’ve lost a point for doing a wal mart Philly shell? Lmao. You reallllly reaching foh with that. I got no real issues with haney holding for dear life when ur hurt that’s what u supposed to do. Thing is he fell over like 3x trying to hold when he was out on his feet. Dude was diving to hold and crashing to the mat and the ref kept calling them slips and giving him time when he was clearly stank legged. I like that the fight wasn’t stopped by the ref because it shouldn’t have been. Haney fought on and showed heart that’s why we pay to see these kinds of fights. Bill haney on the other hand should have 100% thrown in the towel. Devin haney will never recover from the beating he took tonite

I think Keith has a point. Haney launched a sneaky left hook that made Ryan stumble back but I don't think he was terribly hurt. And then later in the fight when Ryan starting doing his poor man's Philly Shell Haney thwacked him with 3 good right hands to the body that didn't even slow Ryan down. I thought Haney would have more power moving up in weight and after knocking down Prograis, maybe he was too gunshy against Ryan.

I saw that and was thinking....man this guy is pillowfisted when fighting someone his own size, didn't seem to bother Ryan at all.
