  • ESPN: Crawford vs Madrimov confirmed, Charlo mandatory to winner

Terence Crawford, ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer, will move up to 154 pounds to challenge Israil Madrimov for his WBA junior middleweight title Aug. 2 in Los Angeles, sources told ESPN.

    ...

The 29-year-old Uzbek is ESPN's No. 3 junior middleweight. It was reported Thursday that Jermell Charlo, the former undisputed junior middleweight champion, had petitioned for an immediate shot at Madrimov as WBA champion in recess.

TGB Promotions, the promoter of PBC events, sent a letter to the WBA on Thursday (obtained by ESPN) clarifying that Charlo has no objection to Crawford meeting Madrimov first.

Ok, I feel much better about Charlo now. Was looking like he was just being d*ck, but if it's actually about him wanting next on the Saudi dime vs the winner, I have no problems with that.

        I'm guessing he got a step-aside check.

Good news, something of an ideal scenario, we'll find out where Madirmov is at skill wise since he has passed all tests with flying colors thus far and how Bud looks at 154.

So Charlo is staying at 154. I see. Is he staying with PBC also, or hoping for a Saudi cheque?

I wonder if the WBO will strip Fundora and add that belt to this fight as well.

I don't see any reason WBO would strip Fundora and put it on the line I the Crawford fight since she's the one who went another direction.

Likely Fundora keeps both belts and defends them against Tzuyu unless another mandatory is appointed

I still remember that first Madrimov/Soro fight. That was some chaos.

Completely unrelated note but is Castano retired? I noticed he hasn't fought since Charlo.
