I had to laugh when at the press conference the other day Steve Bunce was talking about how much easier it will be to interview Bivol because his English is very good, where as Beterbiev's is still very limited. You know, the guy who's lived in Canada as a Canadian citizen for the last ten years and is as Canadian as maple syrup, totally not Russian.

i was cheering for Beterbiev to drop that title and go fight Bivol anyways. Let the fighters pocket that sanctioning fee and let the WBC crown someone one of these two had already whupped their useless champion. Instead, this clown gets the best of all worlds and can deflect the hard questions. I am glad we are FINALLY getting Beterbiev-Bivol, so the good completely outweighs the bad here. But this is the bad. This moral-free viper gets his cut. Kind of makes it crystal clear why boxing has become a niche sport.

Bivol's father was born in Moldova. Bivol's mother is an ethnic Korean born in Kazakhstan. Bivol was born in Kyrgyzstan, moved to Russia when he was 11, and has spent the last several years living in the United States.

Beterbiev was born and raised in Russia and moved to Canada in his 30s.

So why was Bivol too Russian but not Beterbiev? Because Beterbiev is a ****** from a heavily ****** region of Russia?

Also, after Beterbiev KO’d Smith, in his post fight interview he said “Akhmat sila” and that on its own is a pro Russian comment. That phrase is used by the Chechen army (which is pro Russian) to glorify the father of Ramzan Kadyrov the head of the Chechen forces, needless to say he is pro Russian.
On the other side we have Bivol who keeps saying that he’s a sportsman not a politician and politics never concerned him.
