He’s definitely avoiding Benavidez. But historically he has don’t a good job of making the tough fights fans actually want to see him in. I’m not knocking the guy too heavy here, but he’s definitely lost some respect for sure. He would do better just not talking about Benavidez at all vs making up all these bogus excuses about weight, weird rehydration clauses, and bringing nothing to the table. He’s really just making Benavidez look better and hyping him up more.

Canelo points out he has earned the right to fight who he wants. He pickd Munguia. Bivol was up for it at SMW. I'm sure Beterbiev would have been happy to discuss terms. Canelo chose Munguia. When asked about Benavidez, he floats some hypothetical fight with either Bivol or Beterbiev.

I actually don't disagree with his contention that he has earned the right to fight anyone -- what he doesn't have the right to do is hold hostage to the SMW belts. Give them up, or face the best challenger at the weight. It really is that simple.

Only 2 weeks ago Canelo stated Benny "brings nothing to the table other than 25lbs". A valid solution of a rehydration clause is put forward to destroy that argument - again that's not good enough for Canelo. He is SCARED and this is now the single, most blatant ducking event from the last 30 years of the sport for sure.
