well you know those Saudi's have always had a lot of interest in boxing, they have put many a journalist in a box, many a Saudi citizen who spoke against the Saudi government in a box, sometimes a very small box bc of the way they chopped up the body but a box none the less. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas even the bodies get put away quietly, not in Saudi they will chop you up inside a Hotel room and pretend you never bleed. Maybe that is why they call it sports washing it gets the blood out of the Hotel sheets ? Who knows. But really it is how much the Saudi leadership wants to be like America that has driven them to put so much money on a sport that once prided itself on the fights they put out for the people in our country. How boxing promoters here and abroad (or a broad) have made sure that boxing would never be sold to the highest bidder no matter its motives, yea boxing and its promoters would never whore itself like that i mean never.......................They all speak the same language and that is dollars bucks and cash................And a little greed on the side please......

      I prefer the Saudi events.

What do you get in Vegas? One good fight and an undercard of scrubs, overpriced on PPV, commercials between every round to join the marines and some American healthcare scam, a bunch of over the hill celebrities mugging for the camera etc.

American boxing has lost all the pomp and ceremony HBO brought to proceedings, at least they knew how to make events feel big, there was a certain class to HBO world championship boxing that can't be replicated.

Espn plus and PBC are ****e.

Can't quite buy into the idea that Vegas has this rich boxing culture.

It's casinos paying crazy money to bring events that attract gamblers.

That's not culture. That's spending money to make money through ********.

Saudi is now doing that. They're spending money to improve their standing on the world stage. And they've got loads of money.

Fk culture. That exists at lower levels of the sport. The top level is all about money. You can get fighters to the desert if you've got enough. The guys in the Saudi desert are prepared to spend more money than the guys in the US desert.

Interestingly enough the word was the Saudis didn’t seem interested in canelo’s outlandish purse demands for Benevidez so it appears there is indeed a cap to how much they will spend versus how much they take in. The only billionaires that seem ****** seem to be named Blavatnik

This article is hilarious and stuck in the 90s...Vegas hasn't been the centre of boxing for a LONG LONG time. Heavyweight boxing moved away from Vegas some 15+ years ago. Super middleweight and middle weight ditto. A bunch of lower weight division fights are taking place increasingly on a global scale.

Saudi is now becoming the centre for the heavyweight world and thats what the casuals love the most.

As for the saudis... I would never go there, even for a fight. I live in a Democracy...
and while the U.S. may have its problems... pro boxing started in Britain and the U.S.
and I feel more comfortable going to fights here in the U.S. The energy seems better,
and I see it's the same energy in Britain. Long live boxing within the origins of the sport.
Fuqing-A! I'm not going to a country to watch a fight where I might get locked up for 50 years if I get drunk in public or the ring girls are forced to wear a burqa.Boxing is a North American and UK sport and it needs to stay that way!

"thats what the casuals love most".....I don't know if you comprehend what a casual is but it's someone who rarely pays attention to the sport except when there is a huge event like maybe once or twice a year. They are not and have never been reliable enough to carry the sport.Only the die hards can do that and die hards reside in North America and the UK. You cant even get casuals to go downtown to a regular boxing match let alone fly around the world to a country ran by an oppressive regime that will throw your girlfriend in abox for 20 years if she has a 'nip slip' i public. C'mon son!!! Again this Saudi thing is just a flash in the pan!

Disagree. Promoters try to reach casuals. They know the boxing fans will watch no matter what. It's why every fight is 2 undefeated fighters (who have never fought anyone) fighting for a vacant world title.

You have Boxing fans, You have Boxer fans, an you have casual boxing fans. but the BOXING fans will watch no matter what.
