I think that history will regard the career of Errol Spence as one of wasted time and squandered opportunity. Errols biggest problem is that he doesn't live like a world class , elite athlete. To be great at this hardest of sports , it takes a 24/7 , 365 commitment. Not everyone has the type of discipline necessary to do that. It's not easy.
Aside from consistent discipline, Spence def needs a great bounce back win to regain some confidence evidently shattered by TC,then and only then a rematch with Bud at 154 would make sense.

Crawford started fight week at -190 most places. Late in the week the odds tightened. Crawford was only -140 by the weigh in. People couldn’t see their way through the smear campaign against Crawford. The internet would have you believe mean machine knocked Bud down, that Porter was damaged goods when they met, that Crawford never wanted the Spence fight. Just one ridiculous lie after another. In a world without social media Crawford would have been a 3-1 favorite.Comment

My score card was 6-3 Porter after 9. Even Crawford's corner told him he was behind. And he was. He barely did anything. He mostly looked at Porter while shifting his feet thinking it was some good stuff. It wasn't. He was definitely losing that after 9 completed rounds. Porter was too busy and landing nearly all the scoring shots.Comment

Spence was showing signs of lack of discipline and being intoxicated with his own abilities early on. The drunk accident was really a sad case of someone needing to give him a reality check.
Just like Fury, Wilder, countless others - its a case of poor mindset affecting longevity for an insanely talented fighter. Spence ‘could have been’ a ATG as fighting at level he was coming off the accident shows just how talented he was. Sometimes wonder how many fighters even train outside camp.
Its interesting how fighters who were written off or never got their dues are now coming to top again.
Huge respect for James with sticking with him - it seems he finally had to tell him some hard truths. Its a shame now he has Garcia who is 100x worse.Comment

Larry Hazzard had Porter up 7 rounds to 2 after 9. Both Steve Weisfeld and Rey Danseco had Crawford winning 5-4 after 9. None of the judges had it 6-3 to Crawford after 9.

It was a close fight though. TC is fortunate that BoMac told him he was behind.Last edited by kiaba360; 03-27-2024, 08:50 PM.Comment

I wasn’t scoring. I was there at Mandalay Bay. 6-3 in Crawford’s favor was accurate. Porter himself says that he never felt once that he made Bud uncomfortable. And Porter most definitely did not head butt, punch in the balls, or otherwise anger TC.Comment

Crawford got out jabbed by both Benavidez (on one leg) and Amir Khan.
Crawford had his eye damn near closed from jabs by the ghost of Kell Brook.
Crawford got two-pieced, wobbled and dropped by Kavaliauskas.
Crawford was getting touched up by Avanesyan.
Crawford dropped five rounds minimum to a tentative Shawn Porter.
The world saw a man who gets hit. That’s why the odds went the way they went.
Spence didn’t show up. Period. There’s simply no logical reason he should have been getting rocked off jabs from a former lightweight even if he did eventually lose. He wasn’t there on fight night. And Derrick James alluded to it.Comment

stop it!!! he didnt look great? what was the mistakes that spence was showing in the porter/ugas fight that he showed against TC?
and there was no mention of this after the porter or ugas fight.... in fact, when the fight got annouce of spence vs TC, lots of fans on was picking spence to win... now all of a sudden, spence has been making the same mistakes since the porter/ugas fight?
You thought he looked great vs Porter and Ugas? His limitations as an inside fighter were glaring vs Porter and Ugas was able to time Errol's jab, he just didn't have the footwork to keep it going. He even wobbled Spence with a counter prior to the mouthpiece fiasco.
I wanted Spence to win. I picked him to win, but that was more hope than belief. I had my reservations. The signs were there that he was going to struggle vs Bud.Last edited by Gary Coleman; 03-28-2024, 12:29 AM.Comment
