he never had it to begin with... he was banking on his power before and that got him this far.. he was never a boxer/fighter, he was just catching mofos with power shot and putting them out... the 1st fury fight showed us this.

If you don't need it, why get it? His skills are there, but not what took him all the way to the Hall of Fame.

OP, ignore the AJ stans in here.

Mark Breland was the best trainer Wilder ever had, the longer he worked with him, the more skills he showed.

You're right, he had a gameplan and worked on that jab while he was with Breland, but started to buck back and ended up firing him.

It's like what happened with Mike Tyson when he fired Rooney and regressed from then on.

                  This is the answer.

On his way up, they fed him pathetic F-level guys that barely qualified as professional boxers instead of getting him rounds and experience.

Wilder was hungry, but they brought him along half-assedly and they ended up with a half-assed fighter. Wilder's power bailed him out until it didn't.

                  Now he's left with nothin'

Stiverne was the perfect opponent for wilders "boxing" to look good against. A slow, flat footed plodder, who was old and fat, could barely move and was short with slow hands.

Wilder is 6'7" with good reach and at that point he wasn't slow on his feet so it was a physical mismatch Wilder could just run around and play keep away and Stiverne couldn't do anything about it.

When Wilder tried boxing vs Szpilka and Washington who have mid skills at best, he was found sorely lacking and his power had to bail him out.

He put everything into landing the right hand which was probably the best approach for him if we are being honest.

That was actually Wilder`s best fight ever. The only fight where he actually out boxed somebody.

If he fought more guys like Chisora and less bums like Washington and Szpilka in his life, he would have improved his skills, very likely.
