Name of the game is hit and don't get hit. He stuck to his gameplan, got the W and the belt. Win now, look good later.
I would criticize anybody for turning a boxing match into that spectacle. Fortunately, I've never sat through a match as bad as that.

I criticized Loma, as a fan, for six inactive rounds vs Lopez. But this was twice as bad as that.

It wasn't pretty at all, but he did what he was supposed to do against a guy who has fast, heavy hands and can change a fight with one punch. Anybody criticizing him would probably do the same thing he did if they were in the same position. Styles make fights. Taking any unnecessary risks coulda lead him to an L and everybody he would be criticizing him even harder for getting beat. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Boxing "fans" criticize at every turn if things don't turn out the way they want it. The reason some these guys don't take any unnecessary risks in their careers.

        1. Untrue; that's an opinion not a fact. There are all kinds of fighters, and every weekend boxers engage against better boxers. So 100% evasion is certainly not the only strategy in boxing, although it is the most frustrating to watch.

        2. Engagement, when balanced with slick defense, makes fights fun to watch. I don't criticize fighters for losing, as long as they put in the work. For example, last night Barrera put up a good fight and lost, but he was a warrior. Respect for that.

We can agree to disagree, but I do think most fans expect engagement as part of any fight. And that fight didn't have any and prob should've been a draw to send a message.

It almost never ends well when a fighter comes out of retirement to continue fighting.

Please Shakur, stay retired for the sake of your health, and my entertainment.

I agree with some of your sentiments. Would love every fight to have some form of action. But styles make fights and their styles did not mesh well at all. It's gonna happen. Can't judge a fighter bc of one bad fight(as bad as it was entertainment-wise). Don't remember anybody being this critical when he fought and dominated Valdez. That was a great fight and he was still doing the same thing he always does. He just had an opponent who was willing to do what it took to try and beat him. You might not criticize fighters for losing, but most others would. A guy loses, he was overrated, a bum, they're finished and left for dead, then they gotta make that climb up the ladder all over again. That's why guys don't take risks as much nowadays unless they're getting overpaid(most young fighters nowadays). Gotta do what it takes to get that W by all means regardless of how ugly it might be. That's all that matters at the end of the day to them. Better opportunities will come for them to redeem themselves.

Are you one of those dudes who likes boring movies because the directing and character development was solid? It's all about excitement. That's why I hate soccer! Dudes running around all day with very little scoring. Excitement sells boring doesn't!
