Its funny, people clamor for same-day-weigh-ins, but then mock re-hydration clauses. Which are essentially same-day-weigh-ins (requiring fighters to make a certain weight on the day of the fight). I just don't get it.

Both Chavez and Salvador Sanchez were better than Canelo. Not to even mention Zarate who still to this day is still the best Bantamweight of all time. Ruben Olivares, I can go on and on about Mexican fighters who were all better than Canelo. IMO though, Sanchez is not only the best Mexican fighter of all time, he's easily top 5 or even a bit higher fighters of all time. People forget that Sanchez went through the murderers row of his time and beat everyone. Not only that, he accomplished that by 23, Yes, 23, tell me of any fighter who accomplished that by 23? He only gets left behind because he died at 23, but if this guy would of continued, he would be talked about as one the best, if not the best ever in boxing.

In terms of quality, his resume stomps on those of most belt holders today, including Canelo's

TBH, I would talk less about great fighters of the past & more about why, Canelo apart, Mexico can't produce any remotely decent fighters NOW. I think weight bullying has ruined them. I'm not talking about ATG, but, at the next level down there were guys who had exceptional skills like Goyo Vargas, Jose Luis Castillo, etc, now they seem fixated on crashing weight & being bigger & stronger than the other guy but with almost no skills at all.

I agree with Edward's point that Chavez top wins were closer to top condition compared to Canelo's. Without stipulations to boot.

I think Julio also beat more consistent quality opposition aswell although they aren't all comparable to beating a HOF or ATG fighters like a GGG or Lara.

Chavez holds records for most successful consecutive defenses of world titles (27), most title fights (37), most title-fight victories (31), and he is tied with Joe Louis for most title defenses won by knockout (21).

Chavez prime opposition against ranked opponents and champions was:

-Mario "Azabache" Martinez (33-1-2) (19 years old) (Mexico)
-Ruben Castillo (60-4-2) (26 years old) (United States)
-Roger Mayweather X2 (21-2)(34-5) (23>27 years old) (United States) (HOF) (Champion at 130 WBA and 140 WBC)
-Rocky Lockridge (38-4) (27 years old) (Puerto Rico) (WBA Champion at 130)
-Juan Laporte (27-6) (26 years old) (Puerto Rico) (WBC Champion at 126)
-Francisco Tomas Da Cruz (27-1) (26 years old) (Brazil)
-Edwin Rosario (31-2) (24 years old) (Puerto Rico)(ATG) (WBA Champion at 135-140)
-Rodolfo Aguilar (20-0) (24 years old) (United States)
-Jose Luis Ramirez (101-6) (29 years old) (Mexico) (HOF) (WBC Champion 135)
-Alberto Cortes (44-0) (26 years old) (Argentina)
-Meldrick Taylor (24-0-1) (23 years old) (United States) (HOF?) (Champion IBF at 140 and WBA at 147)

I’d love to see a return to same day weigh-ins.

Fight in your natural weight class or else your health should be put at risk, just like you are putting the health of others at risk by being a weight bully.

                What?

Mexico has a bunch of decent fighters right now. Like they almost always do.

Navarrete, Venado Lopez, William Zepeda, Rafael Espinoza who just stopped Mr. 2 Olympic gold medals Robeisy Ramirez…just to mention a few. There are more but that’s just off the top of my head.

People mock it because when you look at the fighters who are asking for rehydration clauses, its most often fighters who have played weight games themselves at lower weights, and now that they are moving up they want to block someone else from playing the exact same game. It's hypocritical....

Regardless of games played in the past, its the closest thing we get to same day weigh-ins. You combine it with the sometime used requirement (IBF) of being within a certain weight a couple weeks before the fight, and now you get more legitimized weight classes. And they should be enforced, so you don't have the Danny Jacobs of the world blowing them off, and coming in as a cruiserweight like he did vs GGG and Canelo.

No. Lara ran that entire fight. It was boring and pathetic. You just ignore body work. But he was hitting Lara with some mean body blows. TV didn't show the in-between rounds of Lara corner working on his body and the pain in Lara's face. Judges saw that also. You did NOT!
