This is the same thing people said about Crawford.
Well, you're not wrong about that. And Crawford did. I don't know that he'd have gotten the Spence fight without taking on and beating the guys put on front of him.
I think that was right after Bud had knocked out Amir Khan.
So then Bud beats Mean Machine (Ring #10 at the end of 2019), Kell Brook (maybe faded, but on a 3 fight win streak after his loss to Spence, and Bud did it better), and then the one that made the biggest difference, Shawn Porter, followed by Ring #7 Avanesyan. At that point it was pretty clear he was the other big name at 147. So he fought two former champions with good names and two ranked contenders before he was finally able to get his money fight.
So let's look at Boots, and who he's fighting. Has he fought even ONE former welterweight champ? How many ranked contenders has he fought? At the end of 2022, Ring's top 10 were:
How many of those guys has Ennis fought to build his name and rep? He fights on the PBC platform, but can't get any of the PBC welters? We'll see how he fares vs Crowley, but he's still primarily an eye test guy with a weak resume, IMO. I think he's likely the goods, but he's inactive and seems to have crap management.
