Zarate most impressive feature of his record was his knockout streak, having wins over (66-4, 63 KOs), but he had:

-Beat Rodolfo Martinez (42-3-1), a champ who beat Rafael Herrera, an underrated fighter honestly, he had beaten a prime Ruben Olivares, Chucho Castillo and Martinez himself.

-Beat Alfonso Zamora (29-0, 29 KOs) who had defeated champs like Hong Soo-hwan and a ATG in Eusebio Pedroza.

    -Beat Danilo Batista (26-0)

-Beat Alberto Davila (26-4) who beat Lupe Pintor.

-A controversial loss to Lupe Pintor by split decision, it is said that it was considered a robbery.

Very great wins, but not enough fights to cement him over Canelo.

Ruben Olivares (89-13-3, 79 KOs) had wins over.

Jose Medel (64-24-7) who had an inconsistent record having loss to random fighters and beat great fighters

ATG Lionel Rose (34-2) who had beaten the best Japanese fighter in Guts Fighting Harada, Jose Medel, Chucho Castillo, and etc.

    Alan Rudkin (38-5)

Japanese Gold Medalist Takao Sakurai (25-1)

    Bobby Chacon X2 (19-0) (26-1)

    Jose Luis Ramirez (43-1)

Both obviously are top 10 fighters in their respective division (118-122), but honestly I rank Marquez, Barrera, and Morales higher. They also had achieved more than Salvador Sanchez, despite that I believe he is quite more skilled than the trio mentioned and having a lot of good wins for the short period he was around.
Zarate vs pintor was a robber plain and simple. I couldn't understand how lupe got the nod, Carlos was so disgusted that he retire right on the spot. Lupe had a good reign but he lost that fight by a mile.

I have to watch the fight but I don't find it impossible to believe, nonetheless Lupe Pintor was seen as a great fighter, win or lose. Zarate at least took on the best.

Chavez took on 2 prime monsters in their prime when he was past his, in Oscar and Kostya, and he took his beatings like a man. Mean while Canelo ran from his monster to beat up bums. He just killed his chances for greatest mexican, and actually just slid further down the list. This will hurt his legacy.

Believe, if I recall correctly he hurt him a couple of times and put him on his pants too.

The ginger is making him great by running away. The funny thing is I think he have a very good chance of winning that fight. Morrel jr would be a most harder fight for canelo, imo.

It's funny word play because it asks a question about the present then poses a future hypothetical in relation.

Is Canelo > JCC? Currently? No.

Can he be without Davey? Yeah, dude ain't retired, you never know what a homie does. Probably not, but let's be real, Saul's bad. He has the potential to for sure.

chavez wasnt a *****. lets be real those fights with DLH were going to be almost impossible to win with the size and age difference but he did them anyways for the sport and for the fans.

canelo doesnt have the same heart. all i ask of canelo is to then drop the claim of being the best of 168 and give up his WBC belt if he refuses to fight david, just be honest about it, no you dont HAVE TO fight him but you atleast owe the world your honesty, if you cant give them that then dont demand their respect back.

Canelo is above Zárate, Cuevas and Pintor and tied with Chavez but below Morales, Barrera, Márquez and Sánchez
