To be clear - I really like Tszyu - he's doing what few guys in his position do. Fu_ck Charlo's ***** ass for running from him.
But I also have always rated Thurman higher than most people on NSB. I had similar, albeit likely lesser, elbow injuries to his and let me tell you: when your arm is ****ed like that, you aren't lifting. You aren't training. And you damn sure aren't throwing punches. And once you can do those things, it is a LONG road to getting back to feeling anywhere near 100%. Years, not months.
So for me, Thurman taking years out of the ring and passing on opportunity after opportunity wasn't as annoying as it was to some posters.Comment

Don't know a ton about Tszyu yet either, but what I do know is that he's been dropped by two guys that are not big punchers.
Keith Thurman was a pretty big puncher. And has a proven chin - this won't end early. Plenty of time for Thurman to connect with something.
We'll find out everything March 30.Last edited by paulf; 02-27-2024, 08:44 PM.Comment

We don't know much about this version of Thurman.

Tszyu: youth, high activity, decent body puncher.
Thurman is a puncher, but so is Tszyu. It's true that Tszyu has been stunned by LMWs, but Thurman's "One Time" reputation decreased as he fought better competition. Thurman's last stoppage was against Collazo, in a fight where he got stunned to the body. I think he'll stun Tszyu at some point, but chances are he won't be able to stop him. I like the fight stylistically, and it may require Tszyu having to pull out some tricks...especially if he gets Thurman hurt. Thurman is difficult to stop, and has enough experience to survive.Tszyu isn't fleet-footed and fights a bit too patient, so maybe Thurman will see the final bell. I think Thurman's best chance is to start fast like he did vs. Garcia and try to hurt Tszyu early.Comment

Thurman at 147: injury prone, chronic inactivity, a clear weakness to body punching.

If I was Thurman I would box on my toes and continually turn him and use angles all night, Thurman has very good feet for me that's his ticket as he cant **** it out with a younger bigger guy, he hit Barrios clean as clean with big shots and only buzzed him where 135 pounder Davis stopped Barrios, I don't think Keith has had power since surgery on his hand forearm and shoulder he just doesn't appear to be punching hard, everybody agrees Tim is the betting favourite but 10 to 1, I think Mendoza was 4 to 1 and to be honest I would back Thurman to beat Mendoza.Comment

Yep, that's exactly where I am with it. I'm not saying I think Keith will win, because I have no clue what he looks like against a young, active opponent at this stage, but writing him off like this fight is a foregone conclusion is insane to me.Comment

He could try to **** early, he may come out fast which is not a bad idea if he can get some respect early, its an odd sort of fight for me because I see holes in Tim and Thurman is a much better boxer than anyone Tim has beat, its just the clouds hanging over him and where is he at right now, if Thurman reproduced the Manny fight I think he would win this, Tim is a strong young fighter but he is basic, he has trouble cutting guys of, he gets hit with right hands and stands up tall, but being unbeaten and on a roll he is going to take some beating to change his mind, lots of talk about Crawford vs Tim after this so there a lot on the line.Comment

What makes this match-up interesting is that both are vulnerable to the other's strength. Tszyu comes to fight and do damage; even-though Thurman will have his opportunities to land, his durability is suspect. At his best, Thurman liked punching on the move and setting traps, which could keep someone like Tszyu off balance.
I used to be a fan of Thurman, but the chronic inactivity and constant yapping have soured my perception. I want Tszyu to do to Thurman what Thurman failed to do to Pac. It's time for someone to send Thurman on a permanent vacation.Last edited by kiaba360; 02-28-2024, 12:39 AM.Comment

You're asking Thurman to roll back the clock almost 5 years though, and it was against an aging fighter. He'll need to show more vigor against Tszyu.
