Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez's Inconsistency is His Consistent: Weekend Afterthoughts

It's not the first time and it won't be the last. Boxing is chock full of tales of fighters who did enough to win the world championship only for the judges to leave them behind as a footnote. To these eyes, using superior defense, ring generalship, and according to CompuBox a narrow edge in punches thrown and landed, Jamaine Ortiz did enough last Thursday to lay claim to the lineal junior welterweight crown.

Ortiz run as much as humanly possible and still lost, so the matchmaking for Lopez can only get better.

Lopez' real problem is his trainer. Teo's game has holes in it. A real trainer would have taught him how to cut the ring off.

          Both fighters deserved to lose.

Agreed. No one will look good against a runner who won't fight.

Teofimo really needs a trainer , his dad is just a cheerleader.

It would be hilarious if they called it a "no contest."

Cliff Rold articles used to be worth reading because he use to offer some actual insider insights. Now he just summarizes Boxingscene forum comments. Teofimo could've fought smarter, but 117-111 was a generous score for Ortiz.

Anyone who appreciated/tolerated what Jamaine Ortiz did last week needs a refresher on what this sport is supposed to be about.

                  Exhibit A.

Teofimo could use a top trainer to give him good advice. Dad might not be the best at this stage. Yes Teofimo needs to use a sharp jab & not load up until he stuns his opponent. Mayweather would throw one punch at a time & fight defensively if the other guy was fast, but if he clipped him then he would open up. Teofimo's dad has too much influence.
