Canelo vs David would do huge numbers, more than Canelo could get fighting anyone else, its never about one guy its always the matchup that creates PPV numbers.

Although I believe Canelo vs Bud would draw more viewers
Especially if they promote it right
Just yesterday I was saying that this could be huge
Both after this fight are free agents and can self promote the rematch unless it’s a wash
Gotta really push two concepts ; Bud being the smaller better boxer coming up which would ignite fire under the nuthuggers ( Canelo ) and mark it as Canelo’s farewell fight
Everybody would be all over it , boxing fans as casual fans

Canelo is at a stage of his career where a bunch of fights don't make sense to him.

At the top. Benavidez. Bivol 2. I suspect there is a great chance we see neither of these fights who should be the top 2 guys on his list of mfers to fight.

Had David kept his belt, Canelo would have already taken it from him. While Canelo proceeded to to clean out the SMW champions, David Benavidez was sitting on his ass, snorting ******* and complaining that nobody wanted to fight him. Meanwhile the biggest name on his record was Anthony Dirrell. Only in this last year did Benavidez finally get serious and earn his reputation by facing and beating other elite fighters. He's now undeniably the top contender at 168lbs so go ahead and call Canelo a duck if he doesn't fight him next.
Anyone who knows boxing knew Benavidez was the real 168 number 1 rather than Callum Smith. Regardless, once Smith lost to Canelo in late 2020, Benavidez has been ranked 1 since then, so its been over 3 years now. Canelo seems to love fighters sitting on their asses anyway, like The Charlo's or cans like Ryder and Fielding.

As you can now see even once David 'earned' the fight, Canelo still refuses to fight him, so it was just excuses before and moving the goal posts. Its called fear.

Benavidez is a much bigger name in America than Mungia plus he still has a big mexican fan base. David has done much bigger gates, bigger crowds, bigger fights, and fights on PPV, and there is far more demand for him to fight Canelo than Benavidez. The idea mungia would be a bigger ppv is a joke.

Callum Smith was the more proven SMW three years ago. Ask Ring Magazine. Benavidez may have been the WBC's #1 contender after Canelo beat Smith for the the WBA/WBC titles, but BJS and Caleb Plant remained the bigger fish at 168lbs since they were undefeated champions. Again, had Benavidez had the discipline to hold onto his title Canelo would have taken from him three years ago. He had much bigger legacy and money fights in front of him compared to a no-name, no-resume guy who was sitting on his ass doing nothing before 2023, so any claims that Canelo ducked Benavidez for 3+ years come only from biased fans who actually don't know boxing. If Canelo doesn't fight David in May, go ahead and start with the ducking claims.

Time is not on Alvarez's side, and Benavidez is prime. Canelo will not fight him if he doesn't have to, imho.
