He is just saying these things to stoke the fires and continue to get people to build interest in this fight. When it finally happens, its going to do a HUGE number.
That's because the opponents he made move up in weight were bigger challenges than the guys that Floyd fought like Zab, Baldomir, Mitchell, and Hatton. I give Floyd a little credit for his win over Oscar even though it wasn't an overwhelming performance.
You do make a point about the challenges......but 4 in a row? I would think that is just as bad and more likely worse as fighting The 40-0 ring champ 1 division lower who won a belt a the weight and the number 2 P4P guy(regardless if he was smaller or not) in a row.
When Pac signed to fight Cotto, and Shane finally gave up trying to get a fight with Pac, he instructed GBP to try to make a fight with Williams. But by then, PWill was already in advanced negotiations with Pavlik, so it didn't happen. Bottom line, if push comes to shove, Mosley will fight anyone. Floyd won't.
So basically you are saying he waited to see if he could make more money with Pac. When it didnt happen he went with the next best option.
Kind of like how Floyd is wating on the winner of Pac/Cotto.....if that doesnt work out he will loo for the next best thing.
Ill tell you right now if he doesnt fight Pac/Cotto/Mosley......a coming back Margarito or maybe a Sturm at middleweight for a belt next Ill call him a *****. But im gonna wait till after the Pac/Cotto fight so I dont look like an idiot like alot of people on here will.

You're saying that if he can't make the fight with the Pac-Cotto winner he'll fight Mosley next. I doubt it. He's not saying he wants to fight one of them first and then Mosley. He's saying he doesn't want to fight Mosley at all. And if Pac beats Cotto, it's likely to take months to negotiate the fight between him and Floyd, because of their purse demands. In the meantime, while all that's going on, he could still fight Mosley. Beating Mosley would also make him The Ring champion and the lineal champion. His fight against the Pac-Cotto winner would then be for all the Welterweight marbles, and would then be a far bigger fight, and would make far more money than if he doesn't fight Mosley first. So what he's doing makes no sense whatsoever from a commercial point of view. Which is why most neutrals have reached the conclusion that he simply has no appetite to fight the best fighters in his weight class.
And bottom line, it's many years since Floyd has taken what anyone regarded as a high risk fight. And it's several years since he's fought anyone in his own weight class.

Whatever happens, what he said in that article stinks. Great fighters want to fight the best.

Pavlik was the odds-on favourite to beat him, and Calzaghe did beat him, so it's not as if he was refusing to take fights against anyone who was perceived as a serious threat. And more importantly, he's 44 and way past his prime, so he gets a pass. At his age, he can fight journeymen like Roy Jones has been doing if he likes. He did his ATG fighting in his prime and this is just a swansong. If Floyd cleans out the Welterweight division and then when he is in his 40s he wants to fight a few big names who are not in his weight class, good luck to him. But he's not in his 40s now. He's in his prime.
If Hopkins was in his prime and refusing to fight Dawson, he would get every bit as much criticism as Floyd is getting. But he's not in his prime, in fact he's been on the point of retirement for the last four years. Not on the point of a fake retirement like Floyd's but on the point of a real retirement due to his age.
Not only is Floyd still in his prime, but he has frittered away most of the last six years of his prime by not fighting the best possible opponents in the weight classes he fought in, and by not testing himself against the fighters in his own weight classes who were considered to be the biggest risk to his 0.
Hopkins ATG status won't be affected now whatever he does. Whereas what Floyd does in the next few years will determine whether he ends up somewhere outside the top 50 of the ATG lists, or somewhere in the top 20. He still has it all to play for and he acts as if he doesn't.

Just how Mosley said he didnt want to fight Pwill at all. Then when it came down to it and he couldnt get the fight he wanted he said fine I will fight Paul, but he lost out on it too.....
Dave did you even read anything I posted because it seems like you just ignored it and went off crapping on Floyd.
I dont understand why you guys get on here everyday and talk **** on 1 specific guy who is trying to make the most money for himself but then defend a guy who is trying to do the same thing.
I specifically said I would call him a ***** if he doesnt fight one of those 3 or Sturm, or margarito next. I personally think he should fight Mosley now but if he waits for Pac or Cotto for more money I would look like an idiot, like alot of people will on here if I did. The funny thing is thast most of you know that is what he is doing but still continue on.
AND FROM A COMMERICAL STANDPOINT PAC IS THE BEST FIGHT, I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Lets say Floyd fights Mosley and loses and the Pac fight goes out the window. Probably the biggest fight of all time.

Jesus christ man. So because Calzaghe beat Hopkins Hatton losing to Floyd automnatically makes Floyd a ***** for fighting a guy who was the ring champion 1 ****ing division lower than himself?
Its funny how you continue on about Floyd fighting smaller guys but conviniently forget about him fighting a larger guy in Oscar, the fact that Hatton was a fair fight, and Marquez was a ****ing tune up after 2 years off and picked soley for the fact that they are setting up a storyline for a Pac fight.
Dave you make solid point most of the time, this time you do not.
Dave did you even read anything I posted because it seems like you just ignored it and went off crapping on Floyd.
No I specifically responded to what you said by saying that I very much doubt he'll change his mind about fighting Mosley, like you suggested he would, but we'll see.
Also, Mosley got much more of a pass from people when he ducked Williams than Floyd does, (a) because he's 37, and has a long track record of fighting the best possible opposition, however much of a risk they presented, and at 37, people feel he deserves to end his career by cashing out, and (b) because Floyd isn't even talking about Williams, even though Williams has repeatedly called Floyd out.
I dont understand why you guys get on here everyday and talk **** on 1 specific guy who is trying to make the most money for himself but then defend a guy who is trying to do the same thing.
He's been trying to do that ever since he beat Castillo in the rematch. Mosley is trying to cash out at the end of a career in which he's proved over and over again that he's keen to test himself against the best possible opposition. And he's even said he's willing in principle to face Williams. Floyd hasn't even mentioned Williams, although Williams has called him out many times this year.
but if he waits for Pac or Cotto for more money I would look like an idiot, like alot of people will on here if I did.
Not at all. I'm criticising him for saying he doesn't need Mosley. If he astonishes me by fighting the Cotto-Pac winner and Mosley, then I'll give him full props, once I've recovered from the shock, but I don't see that happening.
Lets say Floyd fights Mosley and loses and the Pac fight goes out the window. Probably the biggest fight of all time.
Id wait too.
That seems to me to be a strange argument for someone to use who believes Floyd has the talent to be rated as one of the top 20 fighters of all time. If he beats Mosley and then fights the Pac-Cotto winner, the second fight would be even bigger than if he waits and fights the Pac-Cotto winner next.
Jesus christ man. So because Calzaghe beat Hopkins Hatton losing to Floyd automnatically makes Floyd a ***** for fighting a guy who was the ring champion 1 ****ing division lower than himself?
Calzaghe was considered a high risk fight for Hopkins to take. And Hopkins was 43. If he had ducked Dawson when he was still in his prime, Hopkins would have received just as much stick as Floyd gets, but he is way past his prime, and has been contemplating retirement on age grounds for several years, so he gets a pass.
Hatton wasn't considered a high risk fight for Floyd to take. Even so, I would have had no problem whatsoever with him taking that fight, because it was a big money fight, if he had also fought a top Welterweight before "retiring", but he didn't.
I didn't call him a ***** for fighting Hatton, I criticised him for the fact that he didn't defend his Welterweight title against a Welterweight even once, and didn't defend his Jnr Middleweight title even once, and for the fact that this was happening while he was still in his prime.
Its funny how you continue on about Floyd fighting smaller guys but conviniently forget about him fighting a larger guy in Oscar
Like Hopkins fought Tarver, a jump of two weight divisions at the time.
Nothing wrong with taking the De La Hoya fight as well as defending his Welterweight title, but he should then have either defended his Jnr Middleweight title against a Jnr Middleweight, or his Welterweight title against a Welterweight. And by that time the top three Welters were all considered to be at least as much of a threat to him as De La Hoya, so the fact that De La Hoya was bigger then them isn't really relevant. De La Hoya was still very good but was a part time fighter by then, and was only ranked #3 at his weight by The Ring.
Marquez was a ****ing tune up after 2 years off and picked soley for the fact that they are setting up a storyline for a Pac fight.
Well all he needs to say is that he wants to fight the Pac-Cotto winner first and then Mosley, and he wouldn't be criticised by fair minded fans.
And in any case, I did criticise Mosley for ducking Williams at that time, as did quite a few others. But many gave him a pass because of his age and his track record; and because they felt that at the age of 37, he deserves one big pay day before he retires to cash out on, and that situation isn't at all analogous to Floyd's.
