Why do people care that he lost and fought way past his prime, I'd favor the best version of him over anyone under 200lbs.

Its often forgotten that he beat Tarver clearly 8-4 in their first fight and there would have been no rematch if not for the fact that Roy was so great.

If that were true then, it would be true now. Fighters are judged by their prime and their achievements. Duran fought long after his best years were behind him — lost to some guys that couldn’t carry his ATG strap. Same with Ali.

True but in Jones case he hung around way longer than those guys which kinda washed away his great real career, people see him as an old guy getting beat by everyone and its stuck.

Huge Roy Jones fan but that first fight with Tarver was anything but clear.

It was a clear cut 8-4 kind of fight and Tarver didn't deserve a rematch, he was competitive but clearly lost.

I mean, what you are saying is just flat out false.

To describe that fight "clear cut" is just ridiculous. There's a reason the fans reacted badly to the decision with their boos and there's a reason there was such calls for a rematch. Bare in mind Roy Jones had no intention of staying at LHW at that point, but to his credit he had to rematch him because of the controversy.

Press Row had it a draw, The Ring had Jones edging it. BBC had it for Tarver and the other a draw. A whole lot of people had Tarver winning.

I had Jones winning by a round but if there's one thing that fight wasn't, it's a clear cut win.
