People weren't "calling for it" Beterbiev was the IBF mandatory, and Bivol was the WBA mandatory and Ward dropped the belts and retired. That's why people say it was a duck. Because Ward had two difficult mandatories and retired. at 33 years old.

Also why are you acting like Ward was ever, at any point, a financial draw?

He wasn’t a draw yet guy’s like Kovalev & Golovkin both wanted to fight him and constantly had over a million viewers most of the time on HBO.

He turned down the Kovi fight once and that was very early in his career ( he was offered the fight after his 6th fight when he defeated Tavoris Cloud , who was highly regarded )
Also , Kovi feared Stevenson and dodged like he would a bullet

Nah, I’m just simply responding. I saw some salty Ward critics on a statement he made about Canelo.. emotional about Ward ‘supposedly’ ducking Bivol & Berbetiev. I decided to make a post, hopeful in the fact that some of the people that actually believe this can discuss why they do.. so far nothing that makes sense or consistency.

That was his team’s decision to not fight Kovi not Beterbiev
Ward avoided Superman like the plague so not really to far fetched to say he did the same with Gvodzyk , Beterbiev and Bivol when the became the mandatories in the other orgs
One thing I give credit to Ward is he retired and stayed retired

It doesn't matter that Stevenson ducked Beterbiev. He KO'd Dawson to win the WBC LHW crown in 2013 and was going strong until he drew vs Jack in 2018. Ward beat an arguably declining Kovalev in 2016 and 2017, but he felt the power of a former LHW champ. He didn't want the smoke of a prime top, LHW like Stevenson or Gvozdyk, who was making noise in the division and to this day has only lost to Beterbiev. The guy damn near killed Stevenson a little more than a year after Ward retired, and I bet Andre was glad that he got out before facing him.

Are we discussing Ward or Canelo, I’m extremely confused. Not once did anyone think, comment or believe the P4P #2 Kovalev was declining.. that’s revisionist history at best, so I’ll just laugh. Everyone thought Kov was going to obliterate Ward, before BOTH fights.

Regarding Beterbiev.. that’s just fantasy. Great fighter.. but extremely flawed, like we saw against very decent B - level Anthony Yarde. 7 years since Ward retired & Beterbiev & Bivol still haven’t fought. Ward had accomplished more than both fighters put together at 32 years of age.

They were in a similar situation as Morrell is now on getting on a potential Canelo fight imo. They looked the part, but hadn’t really earned a shot at the top guy, think they were both like 10-0 when Ward retired.

Yup.. I think Bivol was around 9-0 and was fighting on undercards not even as co-main. Berbetiev’s highest payday was 140k before Ward retired. Many fans think with emotions instead of actual logic, especially Ward critics.

You mean Tony Weeks beat Kovalev for Ward, just like Tony Weeks beat Barroso for Rolly. I think you have Ward too esteemed. Bivol has the best +/- in the sport of boxing. If Bivol can demolish a 205 pound Ramirez and shutout completely Canelo, Ward wouldn't have a chance, and Ward is a great boxer.

WAIT a 160 5’8 pounder Canelo & a padded Ramirez who struggled against Jesse Hart twice.. this is what leads you to thinking Ward wouldn’t stand a chance, better yet this is 5-6 years after Ward retired - Bivol would’ve been very inexperienced, barely even been 12 rounds at the time. Would’ve been a HUGE underdog against Ward.
