As far as density goes, younger women have a greater increase in bone mass than men relative to muscle volume, and similar density, where men develop more cross-sectional area. Women's bone density does tend to increase faster post menopause, so they'll probably have more issues as they age, but that's true for men also. That little detail from a peer-reviewed study published the 2011 Journal of Osteoporosis.

Kinda ironic that someone trying to say that facts matter got so many of them wrong.
Here is a study showing that men's bones are far more dense and strong than a woman's bones.

Males had a higher lean mass (92%) compared with females (79%). No gender differences were observed for vertebral BMC or vertebral height, although males had greater width and thus BA at the spine. Males had greater BMC and BA at the femoral neck and total femur (p < 0.02). Geometric variables of …

Ironically the point you are making about a woman's skull being a bit thicker....all thickheaded jokes aside....make it even worse for a female boxer. A man has thicker bones in the jaw. Along with far more naturally dense muscle fibers. Meaning that a man can take more punishment, with less of the shock absorbed by the brain, as the force is absorbed by the jaw muscle and bone far more.

Women have far less muscled jaws with smaller bones. So when they get hit by less power, it translates to the skull with alot more force. Meaning the brain is bouncing around. In boxing, most shots are taken to the jaw and face, not the skull. So thanks for correcting me, it is worse than I thought. The brain damage occurs from multiple shots to the jaw, chins, nose, etc. So the skull thickness is basically irrelevant, as the brain bouncing around in the skull from the impact is the cause of brain damage.

That study is interesting. Women are thicker headed. I'm sending that to my wife.

I can respect Serranos decision and find it really admirable that she is standing firm on her stance.

I do believe 3 minute rounds are needed for women's boxing to advance forward and grow overall. The longer rounds make a huge difference in how a fight plays out. If I remember correctly that Estrada and Esparza fight was 3 minute rounds and the extra minute played a factor.

My wife is a military neurologist. I get to hear a lot about brain damage...

You might be interested in the Q collar. Interesting tool that might make training a little safer.

I am in full agreement with her. Women are more than capable of fighting 3 minute rounds and are becoming so big draws with their performances that for the good of women’s boxing, it should be the same duration as the men. I agree that the current format produces condensed action packed fights (like T20 in cricket), but women should not be mere appetisers for the real attritional bouts in men’s boxing.

Good for her, she is in a position where she is one of the most notable female boxers in the world in my opinion the WGOAT and doesn't need any belts now. I respect her standing up for what she thinks is best and yeah its women fighting women so there is no reason why championship fights shouldn't be 12 3 minute rds.

She's making a statement, but not really taking much of a risk. She is one of THEE names in women's boxing and has already won titles in 7 divisions, she can call her own shots.

Amanda please remember no fighter is bigger than the sport, after you retire boxing remains. I don't see women tennis players demanding 5 set matches in grand slams like the men. You requested it, but it was denied now get on with it.
Such a ridiculous argument. What are you, 90? What other women do or don't so has nothing to do with it. Someone has to fix things and there is no reason they can do 3 minute rounds.
She is doing this even though she doesnt need to bother. They dodnt agree then she vacated the title...simple as that.
