Fury also ended the Klitschko era, don’t forget.

He beat Wladimir before Joshua did.

I do remember; in fact, I won money on Fury at 5/1 at the time

That alone says that I never rated Wlad Klitschko highly. The fact that AJ was almost knocked out by him tells more about Joshua than anything else.

Fury did his unspectacular job that night, that's all.

I's easy to say "aside from Wilder" - but he fought him 3 times and gave us 2 classics and a good fight. This was entertaining and the build up around all 3 fights were memorable. Then I will certainly remember klitschko who I think was a memorable fighter. That fight wasn't memorable but still. Then who else is there in this era? He's signed to fight Usyk. If that fight goes ahead only Joshua is missing. After that we have Zhang and maybe Anderson.
Mike Tyson is from another era when all fighters were more active and so fought more opponents and so ended up with a better resume at end of career. Buut if Fury was to retire after the Usyk rematch then he'll have a stellar resume compared to many other boxers of this era.

Are you a boxing fan? This is the fight game. You have to generate a certain amount to ill feeling towards your opponents. Some fighters don't need to but others do. Look how successful the recent Misfits card was - all the abuse they hurled at each other - twice as much as Fury and twice as venemous - but from a business point of view - sales - it works. What does that say about today's society? That's another question.

Then again Fury wears the most garish attire since Don King in his heydey, he is always quotable and he has crooned ballads at the end of his fights to stadiums with tens of thousands - but that's not charisma according to you. Ali wasn't everybody's cup of tea at the time - he poured scorn on opponents but his charisma made my mother a fan of boxing - well his fights anyway.

They are not the target market - other combat sports an general sports fans are the casuals who tune into huge fights - the people disgusted by boxing are never going to watch it no matter who is fighting.

Other sports do a brilliant job of promoting themselves - boxing does a lousy job for the most part. Arum lamented that Crawford never self promoted - and true true he didn't - but neither does T.Rank do anything. As Arum has said - no need to promote Fury, he does it himself.

I know, Fury is a son of this era. Which is a sad era.

Ali utilized buffoonery to make your mother a fan, but at the same time he was beating legends. Tyson's ring walk alone gave goosebumps to fans.

Fury is an obese former addict with (admittedly) an over-average marketing intelligence, making billions thanks to his antics more than ring results and, especially, because he's probably well connected inside a money-laundering criminal scheme.

As I said to ShoulderRoll earlier, I never rated Klitschko highly. And Wilder will be remembered as a lethal puncher, that's all.

But it is what it is.

Should he fight and defeat Usyk, that will be a major point in Fury's favor.

Financially what Fury and Warren/Arum have pulled off here only an idiot would think otherwise. It's genius given another huge payday is already signed and can only be derailed by the obvious might of this huge hitter Ngannou and the interest of weather he can land those career ending bombs.

Fury is a genius and he has a right to brag. Him getting 60 million for a fight he has a 99% chance to win, is like me getting paid half a million to fight a 12 year old in a wheel chair, why wouldnt you do it.
