As far as I know, the term “stay woke” is African American vernacular, dating back to the height of the Jim Crowe era of American apartheid during the 1920s and 1930s, and was and is used by black Americans as a way of denoting awareness of what could get them extrajudicially murdered. I fail to see how that has anything to do with showtime leaving boxing…literally the two topics are unrelated

Look, it's all about huge profits for these big networks, media providers, whatever you call them.
And they're saying, "boxing is not for us and you should dump it somewhere else."

Therefore, boxing has to have a permanent place to settle in and stop courting traditional cable companies.

Boxing will be just fine. Streaming service apps is the future anyways. All major broadcasters/networks will end up there in 20 years or less.

Few more years and there wont be any boxing on any major broadcast, everyone contributed to the downfall of boxing.

It's just going to go to a live streaming platform.

From what I read, this was going to happen no matter how well boxing did on SHO in the last few years, because Paramount is trying to eliminate everything that doesn't vibe their goal of creating a leading streaming platform. They sold CNet, Simon and Schuster, they tried to sell BET and VH1 earlier this year. They are taking all of the money and pumping it into making more TV projects.

Yep. And it kills me because I paid for the yearly subscription to Paramount + just because boxing was looking strong again and I wanted to support it. But the only three streaming models that have proved profitable are:

1) The ad supported (like Tubi and Pluto) whose budgets will not support sports.

2) The Netflix, MAX style that focuses on series and original movies with a back catalog that is easily paid for . Again, no room for sports.

3) The Amazon Prime, or Hulu/Disney versions that have multiple revenue sources. This is the only place where sports will find a home.

Otherwise, sports may need a unique service all it's own soon. But the death of Showtime (Paramount wants to get rid of the Showtime name and it's baggage like Discovery dumped the HBO name) is bigger than boxing. Hell, boxing was a draw for Showtime. It is just not what the streaming consumer wants.

Which is just a long winded way of saying you are right. It was not boxing, it was a corporate decision that is way bigger.

I’ll be joining you lads I’m leaving showtime. The only reason I had it was boxing. If ESPN ever gives up boxing I’ll be doing the same with it as well. I hope that pbc does go with Amazon, its global reach is sick. If they do, I wonder if we will see less PPVs? I have so much faith in the Harvard educated business acumen of Al Haymon that I think he can get any deal he wants at this point based off the strength of a phenomenal 2023 for PBC. I hope that if and when they do go to Amazon, big fights are made, PPV is less, the production is more entertaining, and that Amazon has a big say in its fights to the point where Amazon itself is responsible for the promotion. Traditional promoters are no longer needed, indeed they are a big reason boxing is where it is

Same here. I have no reason to keep Showtime now. I have always enjoyed boxing on that network especially the ShoBox series. I watch boxing anywhere I can get it. Too bad that they have almost all have gone away.

Even the US Spanish stations used to play a lot of boxing and that has been suspended for years.
DANZ was good until it wasn't because they did not keep their initial commitment.

Hopefully something better comes off of this.

Yes. I cancelled DAZN as they didn't keep their commitment and raised their price for their weak programming.
