Comments Thread For: Ellerbe: I Think A lot Of People Are Overlooking Demetrius Andrade

Even if you're relatively new to the sport of boxing, you know exactly what a steppingstone is. It isn't verbatim but essentially, upper-echelon fighters use those from a lower tier to take their careers to the next level.

Oh no, got to feel bad for Andrade. He’s been hit with the Leonard Ellerbe curse. Benavidez by knockout in that case

Boo-Boo can box! There's a reason he never got to fight Saunders, GGG, and Canelo, when they were all under one umbrella!

A win over Benavidez may not make him a great fighter (because Benavidez hasn't yet proven himself to be great), but it does make Boo Boo the top contender for Canelo, which is all he wants.

              Benavidez could be in trouble.

We all know or many of us anyway that Boo Boo can box his ass off, but the fact is he going up against a bad MF’er! How will his punches be even if he lands, will he be able to keep up or even hurt Benavidez if he lands a good counter shot? We know he can’t out work Benavidez so how can he win Mr. Leonard Ellerbe? He can’t unless he makes him miss a helleva lot and counter well,
                ALL NIGHT!

watching boo boo over the years i dont think i ever got much of an impression that he wasnt very happy with the way things played out for him, if he was in some sort of no mans boxing land he must be a great actor too, but then again who knows really

He's never fought a single actual world champion, and ducked every opportunity he had to fight real opponents. His best win was a split decision against Jack Culcay. He's spent his whole career turning down and pulling out of fights against guys anywhere close to the top. He's worse than Munguía, who at least has beaten two world champions. He was basically forced to step up this time. At least eye test says he's good enough on paper to provide some sort of a challenge to Benavidez. But there's a solid reason he's being overlooked. He's not being avoided, he's being dismissed as irrelevant because he chose to duck every fighter he's ever been offered that's been remotely close to the top. Wouldn't be surprised if he was told that if he didn't take this fight that he'd get dropped from PBC.
