Personally, I think this is more about Wilder wanting to fight Joshua instead. It's a bigger fight. Deontay was talking retirement after the 3rd Fury fight. He's only looking for select fights.

Ruiz is a clear underdog with the bookmakers and for good reason. On paper it's a mismatch:

      Wilder-Ruiz is a comical mismatch

      1. 6’6.5 vs 6’
      2. 83 inch reach vs 74 inch reach
      3. Fast feet vs slow feet
      4. Agile vs laboured
      5. Massive puncher vs relatively light puncher
      6. Good jab at long range vs no jab at long range
      7. Backfoot game vs no backfoot game
      8. Highly disciplined and motivated vs very poor discipline and often unmotivated
      9. Outpointed Chakhkiev in the amateurs vs outpointed by Mike Wilson in the amateurs
      10. Won Olympic bronze in Beijing vs won the Mexican nationals
      11. 13 world title fights (10-2-1) vs 3 world title fights (1-2)
      12. Beats shorter or slower men vs beaten by taller faster men
      13. KO’d Morales, Liakhovich, Arreola and Ortiz x2 vs distance with more worn versions of Morales, Liakhovich, Arreola and Ortiz

It gets worse for Ruiz: compared to Joshua, Wilder has exhibited superior stamina, durability and mental toughness, he will likely have A-side advantage on his side, he’s unlikely to underestimate Ruiz to the degree that Joshua and Ortiz did, he will be extremely motivated to beat Ruiz given the history with Joshua and Ortiz and for what it’s worth, Arreola, Ortiz and Ruiz’s former coach Sanchez favour Wilder to KO Ruiz.

Somewhat odd and subjective paper comparison you've drafted. What does most of that even mean today? Half of it is from the 1970s. And who really cares about paper comparisons anyway? That's why the actually fight the fights. You glazed right over the fact that Wilder can't box a damn. Unfortunately for the fans, none of these top HW contenders seems to really want to fight. That includes Wilder and Ruiz. Everybody just looking for a retirement check. Too much foreign investor money is really hurting this division.

What are these dudes waiting for? This is a good, rebound fight, just do it in December.

Hopefully Ruiz lays off the snickers, loses the fat and packs on some pure muscle and this can be a real good Heavyweight fight.

Same as Ruiz, he is also trying to select.... he had opportunity to fight Hrgovic, ih he won he would be in position for mandatory fight but he does not care about that. Only about $$ that no one is willing to give him. So he will drop from all ranking list soon...

Wilder & Ruiz can both be delusional. We all have seen that. Ruiz got his 15 minutes of fame. Maybe if he showed up in shape for the Joshua rematch he could have been in the position Usyk is now in. Instead he partied & didn’t bother to train. He lost the rematch & collected a fat check. All I have seen is potential fights with Fury & Wilder breakdown for the same reason. He wants too much $$$. Ruiz also declined an interim IBF title fight (A glorified final eliminator) with Hrgovic in February which ended up going to Jimmy Zhang. It seems like Ruiz is the problem in all these negotiations. He has overvalued himself. He should fight Charles Martin.

You posted this right before me. I said the same thing about the Hrgovic fight.

He should just fight. Accept opportunities and fight and new big payday would arrive. Zhang accepted Hrgovic, lost, but still made big step up. Brave Zhang is awarded.

A lot of people say Deontay can’t box, that he’s sloppy. Don’t get it twisted, he can box. He hasn’t had to box, because once that right hand lands, you’re out.” - Steve Cunningham, 2018

“He didn’t get to win an Olympic bronze medal and be 40-0 without being able to box.” - Abel Sanchez, 2018

Wilder never fights anymore so good luck getting him in the ring. Dreams are the only option
