Comments Thread For: Hearn on Leigh Wood: You're Talking About a British Boxing Great; He's the Best Featherweight in the World

Promoter Eddie Hearn can hardly believe the career trajectory of Leigh Wood. Last Saturday night in Sheffield, England, Wood, the WBA featherweight champion, staved off a patchy start to stop Josh Warrington in dramatic fashion in the seventh round of their title bout.

Nonsense. Robeisy would shut him out. Wood’s got heart and his power carries. But Warrington comprehensively outboxed him for five rounds in a row. That doesn’t happen to an elite feather. I’d definitely favour Figueroa and Lopez against him also.

Pump those brakes Eddie, Wood is one the best FW in the world absolutely but not the very best, he would need to collect either Venado or Robeisy scalps first in order for that claim to make sense.

Guy hasn't even Unify and he is the best in the World. Hearn is probably going to say he is the best in history. Not even he believes what he says.

If anything, he was the name that most people brought up as the weakest link of the four featherweights. I even recall an article I read somewhere that was suggesting Fulton to try to win against him so he can get a belt again if he wants to rematch Inoue in a few years.

Which reminds me, now that it is inevitable Woods is moving up and vacating his belt, who is the next likely candidate to get? Given the ****** ranking system it is highly unlikely it occurs, but just for giggles if there's one between Figueroa and Fulton it certainly will be rather entertaining.

Hahaha my how low British standards are if Wood is considered "great" smh embarrassing.

                Hearn with his typical BS.

The guyThas zero wins over any future HOF and gets beat up most of his fights. Beating Warrington I guess clasifies him as "great" that's sad that Hearn feels the need to BS the British public.

Figueroa, Lopez and Robeisy would 100% annihilate Wood.

Featherweight division has been in turmoil for the past several years. All the best fighters leave the division before really cementing their dominance in the division (Shakur, Lomachenko, Navarette,) while others are simply placeholders (GRJ, Leo Santa Cruz).

Hearn calling Wood #1 isn't that big of a stretch since he has defeated more ranked opponents than the others but Wood would be an underdog against almost all of them.
