Hopkins vs Ornelas on 12/2: Bernard's Tuneup Set

What part of "tune up" do you guys not understand?
The guy hasn't had a fight since almost exactly 1 year ago, and by the time this fight goes off he'll be on an almost 14 month stretch of inactivity.
All this is is a fight to shake off the ring rust and get him ready for Roy next year.
Personally? I would liked a better opponet than this guy for Bernard to shine against. Because I know he won't be getting 0 credit for this.
That said ; this sport is as much about business as it is about fighting, and this is a smart business move by Hopkins and GBP because it gives Hopkins a chance to shake the rust with as little threat of losing as possible.
Like I said ; I'm not happy with the decision because I feel he gains no credit from it. But if Cotto can fight Jennings and Gomez, and Pavlik can fight Lockett and Rubio......Well......
Lastly ; As disappointed as I am with the choice of opponet, I'm also just happy to be able to see Hopkins in the ring again. At this rate ; I figured I'd have to wait until the Jones rematch before that would happen.

Hopefully B-Hop beats the **** out of and or clowns this guy. Beating the **** out of anyone is always the best advertisement for a fight, no matter how scrubby the opponent is.

Too many around here like to focus on the quality (or what they deem as "quality") of the opposition in every single fight.
I remember the outcry when Cotto was fighting Gomez and Jennings. Same with Pavlik and Lockett and Rubio.
But the bottom line is both of those guys deserved a tune up at that point in time.
Cotto had fought Quintana, Judah, and Mosley prior to Gomez ; I think he deserved a "gimme".
Same with Pavlik ; he had just went through Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor twice.
And the same is true with Hopkins ; He's fought Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, and Pavlik all back to back. His last "tuneup" was either Eastman or Allen, both of whom were mandatory defenses and that was in either 2004, or 2005 ; depending on which one you choose.
He deserves an easy fight at this point in time.
And like you said ; the rematch is already signed and set up anyway.
So we know what's on the horizon.
It's like a bunch of little kids getting taken on a free trip to Disneyland ; but still want to ***** about the roads you take getting them there.

To me it is all about instant gratification with a lot around here and if a fighter does something they disaprove of they go off the deep end when in reality it is only one fight.
I like to see how things play out before I judge but cats around here like to write their own fan fiction about what they think reality is and what reality should be and how all things they do not like at the moment are killing the sport. It is funny, annoying and sad all at the same time.

What I'd really like to know is who these cats would rather have Bernard face as his tune up?
I mean ; who does he have to choose from right now? Who could he pick that everybody would be satisfied with?
Adamek? He's fighting Golota on the 24th.
Dawson? Already signed to fight Johnson.
Who else is left? Erdei? Cloud? Woods?
Who is this mysterious opponet that he should've picked rather than this Ornelas guy?

He is 29 and 5 and has only been knocked out once also he has fought many fights at 168 or above. He looks like a fine tune up opponent, not a world beater but a journeyman which is perfect when you consider the circumstances as he is likely to go rounds.
Maybe people wanted B-Hop to fight Jeff Lacy

IMO, he's frickin 44. He should be able to fight anyone he wants.
Not many guys make it that far against chumps, let alone live fighters.
Good for him.
