IMO, he's frickin 44. He should be able to fight anyone he wants.

Not many guys make it that far against chumps, let alone live fighters.

    Good for him.
I try not to get bent out of shape about any fights taht take place, I just try to enjoy what I get to actually see. Getting hung up on who fights who is no way to enjoy the sport.

B-Hop has the main course lined up anyhow, this is just the appetizer. So even if someone does not approve of this guy why get bent out of shape.

He is 29 and 5 and has only been knocked out once and he has fought many fights at 168 or above. He looks like a fine tune up opponent, not a world beater but a journeyman which is perfect when you consider the circumstances as he is likely to go rounds.

Maybe people wanted B-Hop to fight Jeff Lacy
It really is ridiculous when you think about it.

Who was the guy Toney fought last, as a tuneup?

Where was the outcry for that one?

God forbid the man takes a tuneup at the age of nearly 45. (He turns 45 in January.)

And like we said ; who else was he supposed to fight?

Like Hitman said ; any manager with half a brain knows damn well to keep his fighter the hell away from a guy like Hopkins in any sort of "tune up" situation ; he'll be risking his fighter's entire mystique by throwing him in there with a guy like Bernard for peanuts. (Cloud, Erdei, etc...)

The only guys interested in fighting a guy like Hopkins as a tune up are exactly like Ornelas ; guys past their best, with nothing to lose, and hard up for cash.

Where the fuck did all the logic go around here?

Seems like it's only bull**** "outrage" and "kneejerk reactions" these days.

Ornelas is only 29 he can't be that past it, unless he is actually Fernado Vargas in disguise.

Yea no quality up and commer would fight Hopkins especially after the whole Pavlik debacle, unless they were not managed well and in that case people would think the guy would suck anyways because his record would be spotty since no one was looking out for them, no matter how good they are.

If people were talking up this fight like Floyd-JMM I could see some backlash (on here anyways), but no one is calling this anymore then a tune-up or or maybe a homecomming fight so there really is no need to talk down on it since people are calling a spade a spade in the first place .

Can't blame Clinton Mitchell at ALL, due to the fact that he is DEAD.

This is a tune-up fight. It's in Philly. It's going to be an All-Philly card (Rock Allen, Karl Dargen on the undercard). All of the proceeds are going to charity. It's just a fight to stay sharp, and to raise some money for charity, and make one last Philly appearance. It's planned for regular cable broadcast.

Don't read anymore into it. This isn't an attempt to extort the viewing boxing public.

                  yes it is....

it should be a felony in all 50 states for hopkins to appear on tv in a boxing match...

we could ambush all of our enemies by showing his fights on giant screens everywhere...they'd be put to sleep in an instant...
