It caught my attention to what was said during the fight with Vitali vs. Arreola fight that the Klitscho brothers increase weight for their fight. Now I've seen pictures of Wlad before and after so I wasn't shocked with what was said but I wonder how much they each increase.....can't remember if it was said.
A few people have mentioned this with me in discussion recently about how they found it odd that they look smaller in the off-season than they do when they fight. My friend was one of them when he saw Wlad pop up on Talk Soup...and then another friend was discussing what was said during the Vitali fight. And of course, it has been discussed in the past with what athletes could be taking to bulk up or even slim down.
So here is my question:
What are your thoughts on why/how they gain weight for the fight since obviously it isn't there normal walk around weight and they are bulking up.
Here is mine:
One, they like the increased weight for strength advantage. Increased muslce-weight on such tall frames wouldn't hinder them as much as a smaller man.
While most Heavyweights and other division fighters allow their bodies to increase weight when they are not fighting and have to focus on taking off weight in training and for the fight....the Klitschko brothers since they are already lean and in decent shape...can focus on building up during training camp. Now, how much can you increase during boxing training which is intense...not sure. With modern science, and will stick with legal means...it may be quite possible if done right and the Klitschko brothers are certainly smart guys that understand the human body as well as having money for advisors.
Two: Modern Science...either legal means or illegal means with PEDs.
I tend to favor the first because that is what I hope and was my first response, but wouldn't be surprised with the second given today's athletes being able to get a hold of certain PEDs.
