I just don’t understand the reasoning here.

How does Canelo, or any 168lb champion, show the boxing world he is ‘back’ by a win over the 154lb champion who didn’t come to compete?

Had he defeated Benavidez or Morrell, ok. Had Charlo actually tried to fight and got dominated, ok.

I honestly can’t tell from this fight where Canelo is. I never thought he needed to come back.

I don’t think he can beat Bivol in a rematch. This win doesn’t elevate him above Bud, Inoue or Usyk p4p. still think he beats MW Charlo and likely Benavidez.

He remains a top 4 p4p boxer, behind the top 3.

Charlo definitely showed he has a chin.

I think Canelo’s main skill is that he’s very compact and built like a bull. Great for fighting on the inside. His defense is decent but besides that he seems fairly basic to me. I’d say he’s a great boxer but not as great as some people think.

Canelo beat Jacob’s at 160 then skipped 68 and beat Kovalev at 75. I already know your excuse so save it, advantage kovalev. Canelo been fighting at a height and reach disadvantage for years, charlo was not an Exception and every single fighter canelo fights until the end of his career won’t be the exception. When will y’all learn this man is special. Y’all look dumb af trying to discredit a living legend atg first ballot hof it’s silly, and you call yourself a boxing fan? IYKYK

Benavidez is a step up you already said that yourself, who else fits the “step up” in competition since a taller longer current undisputed champion didn’t fit the bid? Enlighten me. I’ll throw another name that many may or may not agree with but I see him as the goods and that’s morrel. It’s morrel and Benavidez to me that’s it no one else in or around 68. Bivol don’t count because he’d be at 75 like canelo wants it to be, and so would Beterbiev. Those 4. Who else?

                  but thats silly

canelo has bad style matchups which has been shown clearly in a lot of his fights

the guy is not any better now than he has been in the past, if fact hes almost certainly worse and maybe a lot worse, he will soon have another bad night & then that will be close to the end of his career is most likely i would say

I agree that Benavidez and morrel fit the bill as a step up in class, especially as actual 168 pounders. Otherwise the division is fairly weak and has been for a while. 0 reason to not be facing Benavidez next but I’m assuming the plan is now to face the other charlo who will probably do even worse than his brother did.
