This is correct, this is how it actually works. There is no requirement to be over 160 to be in the "super middle division", its only the maximum weight. Now the commissioning body and the ABC orgs may not sanction it if two guys in crazy different weights were going to fight but they are close enough a two weight class jump they will do it. Money talks too so they sanctioned Pac-DLH when those guys very recently were at 130 and 154 respectively which posed health risks to both fighters but it was a big money fight.Comment

Nonsense, I was literally just watching Million dollars wortha game. He certainly said nothing about walking around 168. Unless your Jermell himself you're wrong.
You're also wrong.
He said he walks around at around 168 but is trying to bulk up to 181 so that he can cut down to 168lbs.
He then explained that fighting at your walk around weight is not good because it makes you sluggish and slow, which is why he is employing the tactic of gaining weight and then cutting down.
According to him, you can actually feel yourself get faster when you cut weight.
My main issue with this is the fact he aint listening to his trainer.
His should not be trying to match Canelo's optimum weight, he should be trying to come in at HIS optimum weight. If his optimim weight is 161 or 163, the come in at 161 or 163.
I watched an interview where Derek James told him this and he flat out told James he aint doing that, smh.Comment

You didn't say anything about 30 lbs. You said if he weighs in below the limit that it won't be sanctioned, which isn't true. There are endless amounts of examples in boxing history where a fighter has weighed in under the weight limit, that will not stop a fight being sanctioned as mentioned above with Pacquaio and Margarito.
Anyway, some examples for you from the top of my head;
Robinson 144 lbs Vs Lamotta 160 lbs
Robinson 157 vs Maxim 173 lbs
Armstrong 142 vs Garcia 153
Its a bit more nuanced then that. You indicated that Charlo could weigh "whatever he wanted", but that is simply not true. Most State commissions have rules regarding the allowable weight difference between opponents, in every weight class except heavyweight. For example, in Florida, for super middleweight contests, if I remember correctly there cannot be more than an 11 pound difference at the weigh in. So if Canelo weighs 168, then Charlo would have to weigh at least 157, or the fight would be dead.
So it comes down to the commission rules where the fight will be held. I didnt feel like looking up the Nevada commission rules, but they are available online to whomever is interested
I am not considering any sanctioning body rules, because we all know those are written in pencil and can be "amended" on a moments notice if a thick enough envelope is given to the correct person.
But aside from all that, I dont think weight will play any factor in this fight. I suspect Jermell could have moved up long ago, but only kills himself to make 154 so that he is not in the same division with his brother. A decision he probably regrets now, considering his brother hasnt fought in years. Anyways, If i was to make a prediction, I would suspect Charlo comes in around 160-162 at the weigh in.Last edited by OnePunch; 09-06-2023, 12:30 AM.Comment

I guess you’re right yes, within reason.
Point I was making is he can weigh in under the limit if he wants to. He’s not obliged to make 160.1

I call bs on that. SMW is going to suit Jermell just fine. He's very likely going to show up at or near the168lb limit, and be stronger than ever. Win or lose I don't see Jermell fighting again below 160lbs.Comment

I have never heard an athletic commission or sanctioning body require a fighter to be a minimum acceptable weight on fight night. When has this EVER been enforced? Do they force the lighter fighter to eat a spaghetti dinner before he steps up to the ring?
