By Liam Santiago: If I asked you to name five great fighters that Joe Calzaghe beat to cement his name in boxing history, who would you say? Kessler must be one. Hopkins, Eubank, although both past their best. That is about where it ends. Personally, I am a massive fan of Calzaghe and his style but did he really challenge himself against the best? Will he be remembered for his undefeated record or the names that are not on his record?
he was already forgotten till you made this thread

I really don't see what Calzaghe has accomplished, that's so great. I do believe he would beat everyone in the Super 6 and Dawson, I think he chose the wrong time to retire.

He spent too many years being Frank Warren's lapdog.

it must piss some of you haters off, that a 37 year old, past his prime, schooled old'popkins and gave the legend himself, RRJ, a boxing lesson.

Not to mention zaghes hands have plagued him for years.

calzaghe's resume aint as bad as you haters make out.

Calzaghe was not a great fighter and was just ok.

Considering that many consider his best win was Hopkins (even though Bernard clearly won this).

              Note:

              - Hopkins came off a near one year layoff

              - Was aged 43

              - Had declining stamina

With all those factors against him he was still able to disrupt Joes gameplan.

The funny thing about that fight was the winner was decided not by 'punches' but aggression. Where were the a 1000 punches that Calzaghe usually executes in his fights. Hopkins best skill set - his counter punching / evasive ability were clearly evident in this fight, Calzaghe's not. Bernard Hopkins got blatantly robbed and goes to show that if perhaps Bhop had a tune up or this fight was made during their prime, Joe Calzaghe would have lost and would have been another boxer lost in history.

Thus, he was not a great fighter but just ok.

It's funny how the same people who are posting that Calzaghe beat an OLD PAST PRIME Bhop still have Bhop in their P4P top 5 RIGHT NOW.

He beat Bhop, deal with it. He beat RJJ, he effectively finished 'big new hope' Lacy's career with a one sided beatdown.

Yeah there are some names missing from his resume, show me any boxer from the last 20 years and there are names 'missing' - welcome to boxing economics and politics, the fans don't always get what they want!

I'm not even really a Calzaghe fan, I hated him when he beat my man Eubank!

Beating someone past their physical prime does not make you great i.e. Hopkins.

Beating a past prime legend in RJJ does not make you great i.e. RJJ.

Beating someone classed as a 'new hope' does not make you great i.e. Lacy.

                  Joe Calzaghe was just ok.

                      Don't be utterly ******ed.

                      A 20-5 record is 'ok'

Show me someone else, another 'ok' fighter with a 46-0 record - 46 tomato cans will do, after all it's easy to knock them over one after another right?
