Last time he went top aggressive early against a last minute replacement he ended up getting dropped and stopped.
The cautious approach against Helenius made sense as there's no margin for error at this point in his career. The big Finn is awkward and can crack, Kownacki learned that the wrong way when he went in too early for the kill against him.
He ended the fight in brutal fashion and his fans will only remember the highlight reel KO. He will have his work cut out for him against Wilder but he needed to win this one first. Mission accomplished.

if your a boxer you should dam well know there is no such thing as fighting scared and you should also know the more reckless you are the more likely you are at getting ironed out kid.......let’s see you make the judgement when joshua lines wilder and knocks him clean out.....joshua has fought and beaten much better fighters than helenius so you should know better......is he fighting to suit your taste probably not but make your final judgement when him wilder take on each other in the ring....if Joshua does knock wilder I expect to see you write a full apology and eat humble pie.....

2. I've come back and ate crow if I wrongly called the iutcome of a fight, but majority of the time I end up with the right call.
Called the David/Plant fight, the Crawf/Spence fight too. But on the rare occasion when I've gotten it wrong, I have no issue eating crow, like my prediction of Valdez/Nav. That's what real men do.
On the other hand, what you gonna do if Wilder khtfo?
....and I'm not a Wilder fan by any means....

There is a fine line Joshua would need to walk, but I think patient and methodically breaking Wilder down is a decent path to victory -- it would just have to be applied much better than what we saw against Helenius. Some sort of conservative approach is needed in the first few rounds, trying to chip away at Wilder. He can up the aggression as Wilder begins to fatigue -- susceptability to fatigue being a major vulnerability we saw in the second and third fight against Fury.
Joshua has two comeback fights, won 95% of the rounds 'And achieved a knock-out vs Helenius'.
I have never bought into the narrative that Joshua has to wade forward vs Wilder. Many people have this belief because of how Fury fought Wilder.
Fury for me had to fight that way because he is innately a extremely clumsy fighter. Anyone who has watched Fury's entire career, and even his hardcore fans know this 'Fury is not technically correct, and fundamentally is not as sound as Joshua'.
You only have to look back at Wilder vs Fury III. Go and watch what lead to Wilder decking Fury 'It was a unforced error from Fury. Fury for no apparent reason early on in the fight, when really? He should not of been that fatigued. For some reason Fury decided to square up to Wilder, as if he was opening the front door to his house 'Then BAM, Wilder decked Fury'.
Wilder vs Fury III was a great fight in terms of passion and competition, but skill for skill it was not a high level fight. In my opinion many past all-time great offensive Heavyweights, would of potentially ****** Fury out 'In that fight, with the type of unforced errors he was making'.
Anthony Joshua in all of his fights, has never EVER produced that type of unforced error. I have watched Fury throughout his entire career, even when he was fighting under Peter Fury making a level of unforced errors 'That fighters with his reputation really should not be making, but he does make them'.
Note: So overall I agree, Joshua does not need to try and duplicate Fury's tactics. Joshua has to develop his own game plan, that utilize his attributes. Joshua has more punching power than Fury, and he is whether people like to admit it or not 'A very capable pure boxer, Joshua is the most proven pure boxer outside of Usyk and Fury' etc.
