Comments Thread For: Gary Antuanne Russell Destroys Kent Cruz in One Round

No one could dispute Gary Antuanne Russell's knockout victory Saturday night. His previous two opponents - Viktor Postol and Rances Barthelemy - complained that their fights with Russell were stopped prematurely. Kent Cruz couldn't make a similar complaint after Russell sent him to the canvas twice and knocked him out in the first round of their scheduled 10-round, 140-pound bout at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

He's going to be a force at welter.

Ennis was 23-3 as an amateur. All 3 losses were to Mr. Russell.

Yeah that was a really good performance but the guy he fought if you looked at his record you could see he was gonna be overmatched against Russell but still to take him out like he did was impressive

He was 59-3 as a amatuer but yeah you're right all his losses were against Russell. Only guy to beat Ennis amatuer or pro. That could be the next big fight at welterweight in the next couple years if Ennis sticks around there

Sadly, if he is anything like his brothers, he will now take 2 years off!

Seriously, if he wants to be a contender he needs to fight regularly against reputable opposition. Then we'll take him seriously.

At 5'10 Russell can be a solid Welterweight. He vs Ennis would be a non-stop war!!

Cruz looked to way to skinny at the weigh-in for the fight, and he got blitzed. It's time for him to move up to 147, or possibly even 154, but maybe that might not help resurrect his career at this point. Whatever he decides, he can't remain in the 140 pound weight class, because he looks drained. The first round knockout confirm's just how weak he is at 140.
