I'm an interview he said it was in homage to a old time ring announcers like Mark Beiro who would often repeat last names. They apparently did it because some of the smaller events and smokers would have unknown fighters, poor audio systems and attendees not paying attention so it provided an opportunity for everyone to hear who was fighting if they missed the name the first time.

I remember Beiro and other announcers repeating the last name from fights decades ago.
