Good post. Boxing fans who call top 50 ranked professional fighters things like "Cans, Bums" know nothing about fighting. Nothing at all. They are weakling types and pissed off about it.

Yes - incredible fighters like **** Tiger, Emile Griffith, Gene Fullmer and Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, among a few.

After NBC-TV's cancellation of The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports in the spring of 1960, ABC took over the prime time boxing program, although it was renamed Fight of the Week. Legendary boxing commentator Don Dunphy did the blow-by-blow description of the bouts, which took place on Saturday beginning in October 1960 through September 1963.”

Boxing was big and televised in prime time in the U.S. but lost its appeal after the death of Benny Paret III during his ill fated, live televised, bout with Emile Griffith on March 24th, 1962. After that, there was tremendous political pressure to ban boxing and eventually prime time boxing was off the air for good.
