Those are pretty heavy words from Cotto who will not speak negatively about anyone in boxing. The other reporters at the press conference don't seem interested in probing Cotto about Mayweather's reluctance, so I will. Do you think Mayweather actually is afraid of you? "I don't know what kind of reason he has for choosing another fighter. If you want to be the best you have to fight the best."

You actually believe you will beat Floyd don't you? "I'm pretty sure of that," answers Cotto. When asked why he believes so: "Because of my training. Because of my - I trust a lot in myself. And I'm always do more than 100% in my training sessions."

Cotto says he sees vulnerablilities in Mayweather which he knows how to exploit. "He's quick. He's fast. But when you put pressure on him he closes his mind."

Cotto is such a gentleman you will not hear him say anything worse about Mayweather than that. No, it wasn't Cotto who referred to Mayweather as "Fraud Gayweather," that was Antonio Margarito, who similarly was avoided by Mayweather two years ago. Maybe Cotto's only chance to get his fists on Floyd is to insult and ridicule the hypocritical WBC champ, such as Antonio Tarver had to do to get at Roy Jones.
Where does Cotto say "I want to fight Floyd"? Thanks in advance.

Another factor that no one seems to mention is that Zab didn't do **** since the Floyd fight, he practically had a one year layoff when he met Cotto. I know that he also was coming of a loss when he fought Floyd, but at least he had been active.

Everyone talks like if Cotto annihilated Judah, and Floyd just barely won a boxing match. I pointed out that Zab landed more against Cotto to show that was not the case.

These fights work as great examples to showcase the differences between Cotto and Floyd. Floyd outboxes and outsmarts you, and you barely land anything on him, whereas Cotto might take more punches, but he gets the KO in the end.
exactly. that's why i doubt floyd will dominate cotto like he did with marquez. he'd probably beat him, but marquez looked like a midget in slow motion in that fight. floyd's fast, but marquez didn't do himself any favors by going 18 pounds north of his natural weight. any top WW would've toyed with that 148 pounds marquez, which is why i don't think that cotto vs floyd would be similar at all to that fight

in any case, cotto/floyd would be more like castillo/floyd II. a not so close, but pretty competitive decision

            18 pounds? The fight wasn't at 153!

I agree that any top WW would've KO'd Marquez, he's just too small for that weight class. However, what Floyd did against Marquez was vintage Floyd. He did the same thing to Baldomir, to Corrales (plus knockdowns) and to Zab in the final 8 rounds of the fight. Cotto might do slightly better than Marquez, I believe it is impossible to look worse, but he won't bring anything too special to the table either.

The Cotto of today is NOT the Cotto of 3 years ago, and I believe that even then Floyd would've schooled him.

What do I think of that? I don't know, I must've missed the part where Cotto said it.

marquez's natural weight is 130. he struggled at 135, and struggled even more at 148 (fight night weigh in vs floyd). after the diaz fight, he decided to move up and chase pac and floyd, but he admitted that one of the options he contemplated was to move back to 130 after fighting diaz

he fought 18 pounds north of his natural weight

                    don't worry, here you go:

Cotto Wants Mayweather To “Stop Making Excuses”
By Eric Thomas: In the latest boxing news, undefeated WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25 KOs) has called out WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25 KOs), saying to “stop making excuses” for not fighting him. As of now, Mayweather, 30, has a scheduled rematch with Oscar De La Hoya to take place on September 20th in Las Vegas. Depending on the outcome of the fight, it’s difficult to say when/if Mayweather will be interested in a bout with the unbeaten 27 year-old Cotto.

                    more on that same interview:

Miguel Cotto doesn't normally call out opponents, but the unbeaten WBA welterweight champion issued a direct challenge to WBC titleholder Floyd Mayweather earlier this week. "I have no problem facing the other champions from the same division," stated Cotto, "but they want to remain as champions. I am open to facing any opponent. When [Mayweather] wants and decides to fight, he knows that Miguel Cotto is here....stop making excuses."

I knew you'd say something like that, and what you are missing is that you are comparing weight class with fight night weight. To assess how much he truly went up in weight, look at what he weighed for his 130 and 130 fights, and then look at his 148 vs. Floyd.
