one way he reminds me of Floyd (when he was pretty boy) is the accuracy and viciousness of his hooks and shots to finish fighters

    Real recognises real.

Dan you’re a great poster here but I just find this take to be incredibly wild.

You dismissed Shakur recently based on his level of competition.

Who the hell has Ennis beat?!?!?!???

I agree and I’m a guy who sneers at the “eye test” and puts more importance in resume. There are always exceptions, I think we are just now entering the Boots era.

          Good point, fair call.
Boots for me is far more proven at the weight than Shakur is at his and I am not sold on him via an eye-test either, not yet at least. He has one fight at 135 vs a guy I wouldn't even put on the level of say a Sergey Lipinets.
I think he is unquestionably very good & talented but gets away with a lot of amateurish habits fighting guys he has huge size advantages over.

I am not seeing Shakur as this defensive wizard a lot do. I'd say he controlled range space very well more than he was anything great defensively but against what? Very short, short limbed, slow footed opposition that don't have the sharpness.
He constantly pulls straight back, its his main form of defence and I am not convinced he gets away with it half as much vs better opposition that are similar in stature much like Jared Anderson the other week.
I also think there is a lot of clever matchmaking going on thus far in his career. He has fought one guy who throws straight(ish) shots though telegraphs everything.

He can sell me but there are way too many question marks out there ; I wouldn't favour him over Tank or Haney, I've not seen enough to. He could be packing glass or anything for all I know. Unsure of Loma, even Frank Martin would be a solid test and a step in the right direction. I think he is underrated & its opponent I'd give well any top 135lb fighter credit for.

I am not saying he is elite or anything but I do rate Villa and think he'd be problematic for a lot of guys. He is somewhere in or around the top 5 I feel.
I think he'd beat Benn & Ugas for example.
Not the most skilled but purely on his durability, pressure & power. I think he'd do better vs any top WW actually as they don't for me at least have the blistering speed, power or offensive variety that Boots does too keep him honest.

How do you know Ennis isn’t packing glass? He’s fought one guy ranked #9..

135 is Shakurs 3rd weight class, 147 is Ennis 1st.

Shakur totally dominated and schooled an undefeated Valdez which is in a different stratosphere to anything Ennis has done.

Not seen much of Villa and didn’t know he was in the Top 10 until today so can’t comment too much and it’s a solid win but I don’t see how that win, his only win over a ranked opponents can answer all these questions that Shakur doesn’t answer when Shakur has fought way better comp.

Ennis looks to be very talented but the jury is way out on him. He needs to fight better people before that kind of assessment can be made.

One name, one face, his name is Boots. Crawford has ducked him, Spence has ducked him, Amir Khan, a man who chased Mayweather and won a poll to fight him, is nowhere to be seen, Claressa Shields doesn't want the smoke, Sugar Ray Leonard is not calling him out for a fight to prove the older generation were better, this proves Boots is the best. Yeah lol. It's so asinine when people say "he got hit" No boxer on this planet goes 10 rounds without getting hit. Especially against a top fighter. Its such a ****** thing to say.

Enjoying watching him in the weakest era of welterwieghts in about 25 years when Spence and Crawford go to 154 after their 2 fights.

Lipinets and Villa both hit pretty hard.

                      Pros:
-He’s only 26 with 32 fights under his belt so could be over 40 fights and undefeated by the time he reaches 30.

-He’s a skilled fighter with fan pleasing style when he turns it on

-He’s American and will benefit from American judges refs and media if he becomes the top guy

                      Cons:

-He has fought pretty much nobody in these 32 fights. Wilder tier record tbh. Maybe. It as bad as Wilder’s early record but still very bad

-Chin untested could be KO waiting to happen. We don’t know how he handles deep waters either
